Job Profile

The company is looking for a Welder who will independently perform installation, construction, layout/fabrication, modification, assembly, repair, welding, burning, brazing, soldering, etc., of facilities, structures, buildings, vehicles, metal products, and equipment.

Perform stress relief, tempering, drawing, and making small tools and open-hearth welds.  Perform any work assigned to the employees in the classification.

Perform work in other classifications when incidental but necessary to accomplish work assignments.

Performs duties in compliance with Federal, State, local, NASA, and Air Force laws and regulations and requirements and KSC/CCAFS energy management conservation regulations, collective bargaining agreements, security, safety, hurricane, and other specialized programs or contractual requirements relating to the business of the section, working within the limits of established policy.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Work Experience

  • 5 years of direct work-related skills, knowledge, and experience
  • A recognized apprenticeship training program plus 2 years of experience OR
  • Military or Civilian vocational training plus 2 years of experience OR

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Ability to interface with various levels of personnel in a multi-cultural, team-oriented environment
  • Ability to operate and service various rotating equipment
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently but follow specific detailed instructions
  • Assembles and connects welding apparatus including tanks, regulators, hoses, torches and tips, and cables, with feeders and electrode holders.
  • Attend and participate in a variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems, and maintain a specific level of knowledge on new developments, requirements, and policies.
  • Constructs stand and jigs for weldments
  • Lift, push, pull, and carry heavy objects exceeding 30 pounds
  • Maintain certifications, licenses, permits, etc., required for performance of assigned tasks.
  • Maintain logs, records, charts, etc., as required.
  • Maintain security clearance, area permit(s), licenses, certifications, etc. required for the performance of assigned tasks.
  • May be asked to assist with or complete work in other craft areas.
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s license.
  • Perform or assist with any departmental operations, under direction, to maintain workflow.
  • Performs other work of related skill.
  • Performs welds using arc and TIG welding processes; uses oxygen/acetylene torch and cutting/notching equipment such as bank saw, ironworker, shear, and reciprocating saw to cut and fit assemblies
  • Set up and operate all gas, electric, and heliarc welding, soldering, brazing, cutting, forming, and other necessary equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and adjusts welding/burning equipment
  • Walk, stand, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and bend/twist your body for extended periods
  • Work from verbal information, blueprints, sketches, specifications, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Work with computers
  • Work at heights – walk up/down stairs frequently; climb ladders and scaffolding
  • Ability to correctly perform with corrective devices, tasks that require close visual acuity, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus
  • Frequently perform repetitive movements
  • May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shock hazards.
  • May be required to work a flexible work schedule and on alternating work days to meet mission and customer requirements.
  • May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail.
  • Tolerate in and outdoor extreme cold, heat, and humid conditions for extended periods
  • Use hands to handle, control, and feel objects, and tools; make adjustments to equipment controls
  • Wear job/task related/required PPE – i.e. safety shoes, hearing/eye protection, hard hat, respirators, gloves, fall protection, etc.
  • Performs other related or associated duties as required.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain job-related Licenses, Certifications, etc. required by Federal, State, local, NASA, and Air Force standards, rules, and regulations

  • Must have a working knowledge of computers and work-related computer programs associated with the position.

Special Training/Certification

  • Must maintain the following certifications, in addition to licenses, permits, etc., required for the performance of assigned tasks – carbon steel plate, stainless steel pipe, and aluminum pipe.
