Michigan Sugar Company is an agricultural cooperative, that specializes in the processing of beet sugar. The company produces and provides quality sugar products to customers under the Pioneer® Sugar and Big Chief® Sugar brands.

Job Profile

The company is seeking a Welder B who will be responsible for supporting the factory operation during the sugar beet harvesting season; August through March/April and maintenance welding projects during the inter-campaign.

Educational Qualification

• Applicants should have a High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Required to become certified in SMAW on 5” pipe in 2g and 5g positions every two years
• Must pass Michigan Sugar weld test.

Work Experience

• Possess previous physical labor experience (required)

Duties/Responsibilities

• Perform welding repairs to support plant uptime as needed.
• Complete Work orders and weld projects in a timely fashion.
• May be asked to cover different positions or shifts if necessary or other duties at any time.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

• Knowledge of welding processes such as SMAW and GMAW
• Knowledge of welding safety and confined space procedures.
• Ability to follow instructions are given and complete tasks working alone or together with other employees.
• Must demonstrate the ability to verify dimensions, and draw and fabricate from blueprints and schematics.
• Bending, stooping, and twisting to reach areas for repair on piping, equipment, or tanks.
• Climbing stairs and ladders and working on catwalks around equipment.
• Exposure to both high and low temperatures.
• Exposure to various weather conditions.
• Knowledge of proper personal protective equipment.
• Occasional lifting or carrying items 40-50 lbs.
• Operation of forklifts, tractors, skid-steers, gantry cranes, and rigging equipment.
• Operation of hand or power tools.
• Working in confined spaces and close quarters periodically.

Work Conditions

• This is an 8-hour shift welding position.
• This position may require working overtime hours past shift occasionally as well as working weekends and holidays.
• Some heavy lifting, and the ability to work in heights, holes, and various weather conditions may be required.
