Job Profile

The company is searching for a Welder/Fabricator Technician III who will be responsible for acting as a subject matter expert in welding, fabricating steel, PVC, basic carpentry and aluminum structures with occasional exotic materials.

Support engineering teams with rough modeling fixtures. Ensure that components are within safety working loads and certifications.

Work directly with supervisors, technicians, and engineers.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or demonstrated equivalent

Work Experience

  • 6 years of welding, machining, and fabrication experience or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Structural welding certification or other welding certifications

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist in ordering material
  • Assisting in the design of aircraft tooling.
  • Be familiar with electrode, wire, and filler sizes and how they are specified and used.
  • Construct fixtures, cabinets, and open atmosphere vessels made of various stainless materials.
  • Continuous improvement
  • Determine correct welding positions and configurations
  • Effectively prioritize workload in a time-efficient manner.
  • Exercising good communication strengths
  • Fabricate and build weight-bearing structures and components used in rigging from overhead cranes.
  • Familiarize with hot work procedures and areas around the plant.
  • Find weights per square foot, and calculate thicknesses, metal compositions, and drawbacks of materials.
  • Identifies and documents cost savings.
  • Lockout/tagout procedures and wearing PPE as required.
  • Occasional pipe welding and fitting for low to medium-pressure ratings
  • Occasional root cause analysis discussions with maintenance crews
  • Occasional woodworking and carpentry for special projects.
  • Occasionally interact with vendors and customers to ensure proper sizing, codes, and other features are followed.
  • Offer assistance with load testing fixtures and fitments.
  • Offer expertise in areas of material strengths, supports, spans, and engineering techniques.
  • Offer expertise in metal crafting for engineering projects.
  • Procures parts from crib systems, OEM, or authorized vendors.
  • Assist maintenance crews in the shop as needed.
  • Safety leader; be able to speak up and listen up.
  • Solve complex angle solutions, and other calculations to ensure products are built as designed.
  • Squaring up various geometries and components
  • Structurally welded metal up to ½” thicknesses and occasionally above.
  • Understand feed rates, amperages, voltages, and welder settings.
  • Understand print reading and building from scratch.
  • Understand SDS for chemicals around the plant and in the shop
  • Utilize fork trucks and other material handling devices to move material.
  • Utilize metrology equipment such as micrometers, dial calipers, tape measures, and angle finders.
  • Utilize multiple welding positions with multiple types of welding machinery to include TIG, MIG (GMAW), and Stick ARC (SMAW) welders.
  • Work with intricate and delicate materials sensitive to magnets and heat.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • May require a valid Driver’s License.
  • May require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note U.S. Citizen is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
  • Require the ability to obtain a security access badge at our client’s location.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors about wire color-coding.
  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.
  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.
  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladders, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during a shift.
  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitively for the shift.
  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.
  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.
  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, and squat repetitively during shift.
  • Requires the use of a Company/Client-approved utility knife.
  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

Special Requirements-

  • Wear steel-toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.
  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.
