Job Profile
The company is recruiting a Welder Repair Technician who will troubleshoot and perform maintenance on welding systems and products distributed by the Company.
Perform work at the branch facility and customer sites as required.
Responsible for overseeing all aspects of the weld repair department and technicians.
Education Level
- High School Diploma or GED
Work Experience
- A minimum of 2 years of electrical or electronic experience or training or equivalent.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Travels to customer sites to troubleshoot and make necessary repairs or perform routine maintenance and NIST traceable calibration on all types of Airgas equipment and products including, but not limited to –
- Manual, robotic, and semi-automatic GMAW, GTAW, SMAW, and PAW welding equipment including many custom semi-automatic systems.
- Orbital tube and pipe welding systems.
- High-purity bulk and cylinder gas systems.
- Integrated welding and motion control systems.
- Work with the inside sales team with counter coverage when needed.
- Ability to represent the Company to our customers professionally and courteously. Completes all service orders in a neat and timely fashion and obtains the customer’s signature on the order before leaving the facility.
- Communicates by phone and in person with vendors, customers, sales staff, store managers, and others, providing information on repair times, ordering of parts and supplies, etc. Maintain inventory of parts in the Airgas facility.
- Communicate with Service Manager on the job status, daily activities, and unsafe conditions of equipment and at the job site three times a day via voice mail or phone call. Prior to leaving a job area, call the Service Manager for updates, emergencies, etc.
- Follows Airgas safety procedures and attends monthly safety meetings. Must be able to wear protective equipment as needed. Must be able to use trade-type tools or hand tools. Must maintain a clean MVR.
- Maintains company-provided diagnostic equipment, tools, and other equipment in clean, good working condition and within the manufacturer’s recommendations. Calibrations on equipment are kept to date. Properly locks and secures the equipment at the end of each day.
- Perform Preventative Maintenance (PMs) on Airgas customer equipment per Company procedures. Maintain database and schedule all calibration and PMs on Airgas and Airgas’s customer equipment. Maintains confidentiality with customers.
- Performs such other duties as may be assigned. Ability to work with little or no supervision, given proper instructions
- Required to follow any other reasonable instructions, and perform any other duties, as may be required by their supervisor. Performance of this job in a safe manner and in keeping with established Airgas Southwest Region policies is a condition of employment.
- Works safely and meets the requirements of all safety procedures and rules as prescribed by State, Federal, and the Company. Keeps Service Department clean and tools are put up when not in use. When there is little or no repair work, you will try to gain new repair business. Ride with account managers, and call on distributors to gain their repair work. Call the surrounding Airgas Southwest Region store locations to follow up on any available work. Call the Service Manager.
- Overtime when needed.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from associates, groups of managers, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to plan a logical approach to troubleshooting and repairing equipment.
- Ability to read and comprehend Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Ability to read electrical schematics.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to work in DOS and Windows-based computer systems.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Valid state driver’s license.
- Vendor/Manufacturer School Certificates of Training
