Job Profile

The company is seeking a Welding Engineer III to join its team.

Education Level

  • BS Degree or higher in welding engineering, materials engineering, or related field with 3+ years of experience OR
  • CWI with 5+ years of experience in place of a degree.

Work Experience

  • Experience in hardware manufacturing processes (i.e., castings, forgings, additively manufactured components, mechanized welding, machining, cleaning, non-destructive testing methods, tight tolerance assembly, leak testing, final acceptance testing of integrated hardware, working with large assemblies, etc.)
  • Experience in large assembly/tooling fabrication.
  • Experience qualifying to and working in accordance with codes and standards (AWS D17.1, ASME BPVC Section IX, B31.3, AWS D1.1, 1.2, D1.6, etc.)
  • Experience supporting design and manufacturing teams in an aerospace environment, including preparing specifications, test reports, and design substantiation documentation
  • Experience with at least 3 of the following processes: GTAW, FCAW, SMAW, LBW, GMAW, PAW.
  • Experience with manufacturing drawing review, including a robust understanding of welding symbols.
  • Experience working with carbon and stainless steels, aluminum alloys, Ni-based Alloys, or other aerospace materials.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Tackle welding/joining engineering problems for various spaceflight and support systems.
  • Specify, develop, and qualify joining processes (including LBW, GMAW, GTAW, PAW, etc.) on various Blue Origin projects, focusing on large structure fabrication.
  • Work closely with design, analysis, manufacturing, and quality groups to continue optimizing materials and processes while providing ongoing support to existing configurations on the production floor.
  • Support activities such as parameter development, material/process selection, drawing reviews, managing qualification test campaigns, interacting with external audit vendors, etc.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability and willingness to train cross-functional engineering teams on welding requirements and weldment design.
  • Ability to learn, grow, and tackle new challenges in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Excellent attention to detail and task ownership, someone who demonstrates pride in all work and willingness to perform low-level tasks when needed.
  • Extensive knowledge of welding processes across a variety of materials, requiring testing at both cryogenic and elevated temperature ranges
  • Lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position
  • Must be available to work all required shift hours, including overtime and weekends, as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle small and large projects with internal and external customers.
