Job Profile
The company is searching for a Welding Inspector who will play a pivotal role in ensuring the production of high-quality products through effective administration of product/process quality, inspection, and testing controls in compliance with ASME code for pressure vessels and ISO9001 quality system requirements.
Execute quality control inspection activities on product/process including regulatory, namely ASME compliance, and enforce policies or guidelines for quality acceptance criteria, specifications, requirements, standards, etc., and utilize process outputs to identify areas of improvement to support the department’s performance and cost-reduction initiatives to positively impact quality objectives and metrics of performance.
Requires maintaining a positive and productive cross-functional partnership with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Sales departments, and ASME relevant authorities.
Education Level
- GED or equivalent technical discipline such as Mechanical, Electrical, etc., or 5-8 years of hands-on/applied strong working knowledge in manufacturing environments regulated by ASME code for Pressure Vessels or similar.
Work Experience
- Demonstrated and solid experience (5-8 years) performing quality control roles and duties. Preferably in manufacturing environments regulated by ASME code for Pressure Vessels or similar.
- Experience reading, interpreting, reviewing, engineering drawings and GD&T, understanding the application of engineering mechanical protocols and regulations, engineering calculations and specifications,
- Essential knowledge or experience with quality systems documentation.
- Required for the incumbent must hold a current CWI – Certified Welder Inspector accreditation or an AWS – American Welding Association relevant certification. Additionally, the incumbent should complete ASME BPV Code, Section VIII, Division 1: Design/Fabrication of Pressure Vessels training within six months from the start of their employment.
Duties/Responsibilities
- As the process owner for Control of Non-conforming product (NCP), leads the overall NCP reaction plan, including investigation, risk assessment as well as tracking and reporting trends, actions, and results related to product disposition.
- Assist with tracking and reporting product/process data and generating monthly reports of performance (KPIs) to the Director of Quality.
- Conduct periodic evaluation of inspection methods, protocols, tools, mechanisms, and equipment; to assess its effectiveness or identify areas of improvement as part of our cost reduction efforts.
- Conduct periodic evaluations of manufacturing processes to ensure Quality Standards and applicable regulation requirements (ASME) are effectively implemented and maintained.
- Effectively perform incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities of Vapor Power products and processes. Ensure product compliance is maintained throughout the process, it’s documented, and recorded as per QMS requirements. Most importantly, that product meets regulatory and customer specifications and requirements before shipment.
- Maintains work area cleanly and safely.
- May be assigned to participate in programs, projects, or initiatives as they apply to correction, prevention, or improvement of product or process quality.
- Observe all safety precautions, rules, and regulations. Complies with and helps enforce standard policies and procedures.
- Owns the overall ASME Welder training/certification program.
- Participate as directed, in the internal and external audit program (ASME, QMS, suppliers, customers) for continuous accreditation and compliance.
- Participate as requested in the Customer Complaint and Root Cause Analysis review/investigation process.
- Responsible for conducting or coordinating successful and timely completion of applicable ASME product testing requirements through internal or external sources and effective reporting of results.
- Responsible for documenting and consolidating product verification and validation reports/records for master file per ASME/QMS requirements and where applicable, attain corresponding sign-off from designated Authorized Inspector (A.I.)
- Responsible for timely verification of product drawings and specifications in compliance with ASME requirements and where applicable attain corresponding sign-off from designated Authorized Inspector (A.I.)
- Stay informed and up to date about ASME code updates or changes to the standards and update all relevant internal documentation.
- Travel domestic ≤ 5%
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Able to effectively work with various functions and levels in the organization, ability to positively influence others.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish a plus)
- Capable of dealing with and managing multiple tasks and responsibilities and ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Visio, etc.)
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and technical problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Team player-minded, communicative, proactive, stress-resistant, and assertive.
Physical Demands
- Requires moderate lifting and walking.
- Annual eye exams are also required and are covered by Vapor Power.
Work Environment
- This position must perform tasks that involve spending all his/her time in the plant with low to moderate exposure to noise, heat, and cold environment, other physical requirements include walking, bending, hand dexterity, speaking, seeing, and lifting/moving up to 20 pounds.
- Steel-toe shoes, earplugs, and safety glasses are always required while on the production floor.
- Exposure to sitting behind a desk performing tasks on a computer is minimal.
