Job Profile

The company is hiring a Welding Operator who will fabricate metal electrodes and prefabs from various sizes, grades, and shapes of scrap titanium.

Also fabricates electrodes using sponge compacts.

Educational Qualification

Duties/Responsibilities

• Completes records as required.
• Fabricates complete electrode by operating weld line and weld chamber controls and rod weld units utilizing manual control as required.
• Hand wraps alloys in foil for addition to electrodes.
• Identifies finished electrode by stamping on required information.
• Inspects and cleans welds to remove contaminants.
• Inspects vacuum pumps. Changes oil in pumps and cleans screens as needed.
• Keeps equipment and working area in clean and orderly condition.
• Loads, unloads, cleans, adjusts, and inspects wire weld units.
• Makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
• Notifies the foreman of any improper grades found in lots that have been color-coded.
• Operates oxygen analyzer.
• Operates powered conveyors, materials handling equipment, cranes, hoists, etc., in transporting recycled mill material, sponge ends, stubs, compacts, and fabricated electrodes.
• Operates vacuum pump.
• Properly align scrap in the jig to provide density and strength to specification.
• Rejects bad pieces.
• Select scrap to be welded using the lot identification number provided.
• Select the stubs and wafers ensuring that the matched grade is used.
• Transports billets, fabricated electrodes, or portions thereof to Melt Shop.
• Uses drawings to build prefabs, primary, and double melt sticks.
• Uses material handling equipment such as cranes, forklifts, straddle trucks, and work savers.
• Weighs electrodes and record weight on proper forms.
• Weld scrap using required welding equipment to obtain a finished weld that is to proper specification.
• Weld the compacts and double melt stubs to wafers.
• Welds head wafers to stubs.
• Welds stubs to electrodes and repairs broken electrodes.

Tools/Equipment

• Plasma arc and wire welding equipment, weld chamber, vacuum pumps, material handling equipment, work-savers, cranes, hoists, forklifts, straddle trucks, jigs, various hand and power tools, flowmeters, scalp coiler, chamber controls, conveyors, etc.

Materials

• Titanium wire, argon, scrap titanium, stubs, wafers, sponge compacts, etc.
