Job Profile
The company is hiring a Welding Production Supervisor, who will handle functions as follows-
- Assigning work to meet daily priorities, helping to determine if departmental overtime is needed to meet customer ship dates, and providing any other assistance as directed by the Plant Manager.
- Ensuring all company policies and procedures are being followed.
- Overseeing and leading a team of direct labor employees in the manufacture and assembly of products, components
- Overseeing their department’s work and assuring deadlines are met on time.
- Participating in developing new policies and procedures as a process of continuous improvement at the direction of management.
- Solving production problems as they arise.
Education Level
- High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
- Must have successfully demonstrated leadership capabilities in a manufacturing environment.
Work Experience
- 1-2 years of Vocational – Welding Fabrication or Certificates for Mig and Tig, Stick
- Minimum of 5 years of work-related experience as a professional welder in a manufacturing environment.
- Must possess a high level of technical knowledge and experience
- Experience production welder within a manufacturing environment
Duties/Responsibilities
- Assigning work to hourly personnel to meet schedule commitments and cycle time requirements.
- Assuring that appropriate actions are taken to meet all requirements, including stopping production if appropriate.
- Enforcing departmental compliance and enforcement of all company policies and procedures. Ensuring consistent and effective employee relations.
- Ensuring all quality, regulatory, ISO, and Nuclear requirements are met.
- Filler material inventory maintenance and control.
- Heat treatment management (Process Knowledge and Schedule Adherence)
- Holding departmental employees accountable for following all OSHA and company policies and regulations. Actively participates in safety improvement activities.
- Leading continuous improvement activities within the departments.
- Leading the implementation of Lean foundational blocks of Identification of Waste, 6S, Standard Work, and Visual Management.
- Maintaining daily materials logs and review and approval of weld process reports
- Participating in department interviews, and performance reviews, and managing time and attendance for the area.
- Participating in Kaizen Events and taking on roles of subject matter expert where appropriate.
- Participating in value stream map creation and goal setting for the department product lines.
- Prioritizing and managing the workflow within the department to ensure timely and efficient task completion under the production schedule.
- Providing technical expertise for problem resolution. Liaisons with appropriate departments such as Quality, Materials, Purchasing, Engineering, Sales Administration, and Product Management to determine root cause and corrective actions.
- Reviewing all work within the department to ensure the accuracy of the work meets standard operating procedures and job expectations.
- Training and development of all departmental personnel. This includes defining the job function requirements, training plans for employees to develop the required skills, and maintaining the department qualification and training skill matrix.
- Training and leading employees and Team Leads in safety, quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to analyze and evaluate drawings, and specifications.
- Able to operate various material handling equipment, including but not limited to, overhead cranes, forklifts, and pallet jacks.
- Able to read and understand work orders, safety rules, and various manuals.
- Able to read blueprints and weld symbols to visually inspect completed hardware and assemblies
- Effective verbal and written communication. Must also be able to read and comprehend documents written in English
- Good at problem-solving
- Math and blueprint reading skills
- Must be able to lift, push, pry, and drag heavy materials up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to perform work functions while standing for long periods.
- Must be able to reach, grasp, bend, stoop, crawl under, or climb over to weld product.
- Must be familiar with, set up, and be able to operate hand and power tools
- Must have strong leadership skills
- Thorough understanding and application of lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
