Job Profile

The company is hiring a Weld S/M Inspector II who will plan and perform standard inspection operations on a variety of sheet metal, welded, glass, rubber, chemically machined, shot-peened, or routinely machined parts and assemblies.

Education Level

Work Experience

  • Equivalent to 2 years of high school plus 2 to 3 years of trades training

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Follow ordinary drawings, written and oral instructions to inspect a variety of sheet metal, welded, glass, rubber, chemical machined, shot peened, or routine machined parts and assemblies,
  • Work with gages, templates, micrometers, and other measuring instruments to ensure adherence to specifications,
  • Report and correct deviations in operational procedures, routing sequences, and process requirements as directed,
  • Dimensionally inspect standard items to specification and visually for dents, scratches, cracks, burrs, sharp edges, and other surface irregularities,
  • Inspect routine welds for uniformity of bead, cracks, burn through, porosity, etc.
  • Check parts and assemblies for required machining, hardness, and finish.
  • Maintain and process paperwork as required and perform related or similar inspection operations when directed,
  • Refer unusual conditions to the leadman or foreman.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Requires well-rounded knowledge of sheet metal, welding, chemical machining, and process operations.
  • Also requires the ability to read and interpret drawings, to use shop mathematics, and precision measuring instruments

Work Environment

  • Exposed to noise, heat, and metal dust
  • Inspect welds and metal parts for quality and safety
  • Must wear safety gear like goggles and gloves
  • Requires standing and close visual inspection for long periods
  • Work in manufacturing, fabrication, or aerospace environments
