Job Profile

The company is seeking a Welding Shop Lead who will be responsible to plan, coordinate, and manage all workflow through the welding department as it pertains to our rock crusher remanufacture processes.

The position will report to the Manager, Manufacturing Operations.

Educational Qualification

  • The applicants should have an Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Or Operations Management (preferred) from a college/university.
  • A Technical Degree in one of our dedicated work areas or sufficient work experience potentially could be a substitute.

Work Experience

  • Experience with air arc, gas torches, induction rope, and automatic welding processes
  • Experience with crack repair and stress relief procedures
  • Experience with SAW, GMAW (solid wire and flux core), SMAW
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in heavy equipment remanufacture

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Ability to lead and develop crew through positive reinforcement and coaching
  • Apprise site management of work order status and when potential roadblocks arise on critical path projects.
  • Assist in compiling data-driven quotes within 24 hours and with an 80% accuracy rate (fabrication and remanufacture)
  • Assist in managing our NOI part inventory to achieve 5S standards in each department and the yard and to also use all components to end of life
  • Check emails in Microsoft Outlook multiple times per day, communicating with direct reports, site management, and upper management as needed.
  • Complete safety inspections, quality control sheet approvals, and closing work orders in an accurate and timely fashion
  • Continually strive to increase shop efficiencies shop-wide
  • Coordinate with tool representatives and vendors always seeking newer, more efficient, and safer methods for our procedures.
  • Demonstrate an upbeat attitude with contagious positive energy towards direct reports, teammates, vendors, and customers
  • Distribute work order packets before the job commences and ensure accuracy of parts to be ordered.
  • Enforce disciplinary procedures when necessary and recommend further action if needed.
  • Ensure a safe work environment for others and self through our Guardian Angel Program at all times and believes ZERO is achievable with regards to all safety metrics.
  • Establish and assign teams to complete projects based on weekly work order meetings and priorities deemed most important by our customers, needs
  • Establish and maintain effective communication within all areas of operation
  • Exhibits the desire to cross-train members to build experience amongst the crew
  • Maintain housekeeping and appearance standards as established by OSHA/MSHA regulations, Martin Marietta policies, Adopt Our Shop initiatives, and 5S efficiency improvements.
  • Must make regular inspections for safety, housekeeping, and mechanical issues
  • Navigate in JD Edwards to be able to create, search, modify and sort work orders in our ERP.
  • Open each workday with a toolbox talk communicating daily work objectives of the team along with all relevant safety topics and demonstrations in order to meet safe production as outlined by management
  • Perform annual performance evaluations on team members setting SMART goals for the following year.
  • Perform standard office duties, plant duties, and operate mobile equipment
  • Recommend and assist in managing capital projects.
  • Responsible for maintaining the quality of all products by ensuring our quality control program is followed within the workgroup
  • Support SLAMs for the work team by questioning, mentoring, and providing direction before starting work.
  • Use Crucial Conversations to address sensitive and problematic behavior before disruption to the workgroup occurs.
  • Work closely with management to ensure implementation of scheduled maintenance on all equipment

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • The ability to lift up to 50 lbs. will be required
  • Advanced computer skills with the ability to report and transfer the information required
  • Must be a self-motivated, strong work ethic individual that is willing to work with minimal supervision and at a high level of accountability to operational requirements
  • The candidate must believe and practice safety as the number one priority
