Job Profile

The company is searching for a Welding Technician (Tank B) who will support construction operations to ensure the readiness and timely deployment of all welding and NDE-associated equipment, tools & materials for all Tank projects.

Adheres to and upholds the project specifications and Bechtel Procedures, ensuring all work is executed in compliance with the project plans.

Education Level

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develops required Tank Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs) following API, AWWA, ASME codes and standards.
  • Fleet restoration and repair of construction equipment and welding machines as required. Provide Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) training and certification for “competency” for TWT and other supervisors as needed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Lead all Jr. Tank Welding Technicians on a project, providing technical and construction welding oversight.
  • Maintain all QA/QC records such as inspection and testing records, ITPs, welding records, and traceability records etc.
  • Overviews on various topics, including relevant codes and standards, Bechtel’s welding program, quality control checks, testing requirements, and documentation requirements.
  • Provides classroom and hands-on training on the role and responsibilities of the TWT.
  • Provides instruction, training, and qualification of Welding Operators with Automatic Welding Machines, including LT-7’s, Gullco’s, AVW’s and AGWs.
  • Provides manual and semi-automatic welding instruction, training, and qualification of plate welders with tank industry welding processes.
  • Provides site supervisor training.
  • Providing hands-on training, how to set up welding machines, how to fit plates, how to pre-set joints, troubleshooting equipment, and weld profile corrections.
  • Tank Welding Technician Schools (TWTs).
  • Testing of new equipment, consumables, tools, and relaying findings back with operations for consideration.
  • The use and application of tank fitting tools, equipment set-up and disassembly, site receiving/storage requirements, quality documentation records, and calibration requirements.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Demonstrated understanding of Tank construction procedures, processes, and methods
  • Good communication, customer relations, and training/coaching abilities
  • Hands-on experience with mobile automatic welding equipment, set-up, troubleshooting, and coaching
  • Conduct, assist, or lead welding training or upgrading schools.
  • Knowledge of construction, tools, equipment, supplies, and personnel
  • Open-minded, team player, good listener, and leadership qualities. In-depth knowledge and practical experience with various NDE examination methods
  • Prior work experience with industry-known Tank and Vessel field erectors is considered an asset
  • Superior welding skills with multiple processes including GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, and SAW
