Job Profile

The company is hiring a Workshop Technician who will report to the Cardiff Facility Manager and work in the Engineering Workshop in Cardiff. The technician will focus on the refurbishment, modification, and testing of cryogenic equipment required for Air Products.

Education Level

  • NVQ level 2 or 3 qualification in an Engineering discipline

Work Experience

  • Previous experience in a similar position

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist with Facility Preventative Maintenance tasks as requested by the Workshop Manager
  • Assist with investigations as part of Returns/Complaints processes to identify common failure modes.
  • Complete failure reports on equipment.
  • Contribute to Continuous Improvement Events within the department
  • Fabrication and welding of steel framework for pipework supports.
  • General Engineering/Fitting Tasks including drilling, grinding, working with stainless and copper pipework.
  • Replacement of valves, gauges, and instrument work.
  • Undertake preparation, welding, testing and refurbishment of components on cryogenic storage tanks.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to work safely and effectively within a team and as an individual
  • Basic computer skills
  • Knowledge and usage of pressure washing equipment (remove washing)
  • Strong communication skills

Desirable Qualifications

  • Basic engineering knowledge of machining, pipework fitting, pneumatics, fabrication, welding, soldering and brazing disciplines
  • Basic understanding of pressure vessels and associated components – safety devices, regulators, valves, gauges etc.
  • Counterbalance B1 forklift truck usage and basic inspection training
  • Experience working with equipment required to meet minimum oxygen cleanliness standards
  • Familiarity with oxy-acetylene cutting equipment and portable cutting/grinding tools
  • Full UK driving license
  • MEWP license (IPAF)
  • Mobile access tower license (PASMA)
  • Overhead crane operation training
