Job Profile

The company is hiring a Heavy Equipment Technician/Welder/Machinist who will provide face-to-face customer service and be responsible for various forms of complex repairs on heavy equipment. The responsibility includes welding, machining, line boring, MIG welding, air arcing, and repairs related to undercarriage and undercarriage components.

Also, responsible for communicating repair options to customers, ordering correct parts, and completing the repair in an efficient, timely manner in order to meet department goals and organizational objectives.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a High School Diploma or Equivalent (required)
  • Additional Technical Education in related fields (preferred)

Work Experience

  • Possess more than 8 years of experience (required); 10 or more years preferred

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations
  • Advises customers of problem areas and recommends repair solutions, gain customer approval, and orders appropriate parts in order to repair equipment in a timely manner.
  • Communicates job progress to supervisor and customer as needed
  • Completes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner
  • Completes assigned jobs and tasks to meet flat rate time and re-work standards
  • Maintains all company equipment, tools, and the vehicle in a good, clean, and working order
  • Maintains service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections, and driver logs as required by the Department of Transportation
  • Operates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates
  • Performs complex repairs and troubleshooting offsite with minimal supervision
  • Performs complex tasks in order to complete work orders, fabrication, and welding on product and their components
  • Performs complex troubleshooting, diagnoses of equipment malfunctions, and failure analysis
  • Performs various repairs related to undercarriage and undercarriage components to include, but not limited to; welding, machining, line boring, MIG welding, and air arcing on Cat and Non-Cat equipment
  • Prepares and completes all job-related documents, writes service reports, orders parts, and maintains clear customer records; in addition, accesses databases required to complete job
  • Projects professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance; may be relied upon to act as a mentor to lower-level Technicians
  • Reads blueprints to understand engineering design necessary for the fabrication of parts, including material specifications, grain direction, GD&T standards and practices, dimensions, and interference/clearance conditions
  • Removes and installs parts, disassembles and assembles components to CAT specifications
  • Removes and replaces machine components utilizing required technical data and procedures in order to repair equipment to required standards
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
  • Tests make adjustments and verify proper operation of all repairs and adjustments
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under fast-paced, time-constraining circumstances
  • Ability to operate a crane and forklift, and obtain required certifications/licenses
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
  • Ability to read shop drawings and blueprints
  • Ability to understand technical manuals, software specifications, hardware principles of operations, and systems software operations
  • Able to use calipers, micrometers, and tape measure
  • Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Advanced knowledge of CAT models/machines and safe operation procedures, maintenance practices, and troubleshooting of hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Advanced knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Advanced knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, engines, undercarriage, and electrical
  • Advanced knowledge of safe work procedures and practices
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and knowledge of machine electronic systems
  • Equipment selection skills to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job

Physical Requirements

  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet, and climbs up and down ladders or equipment
  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lbs.
  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work
  • Involves extended periods in a stationary position; additionally, occasional movement inside the office to access office machinery, file cabinets, etc.
  • Frequently communicates with others and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations

Work Environment

  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment
  • May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity
  • Regularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts and noise level may be loud at times
  • Required to perform work in cramped spaces or high places
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment

Travel

  • Extensive travel is required with a possibility of an overnight stay

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and must have an acceptable driving record
  • Must own required tools to perform repairs
  • A Valid Driver’s license (required)
