Job Profile

The company is searching for a Welder/Helper for the rail tank car repair shop and assists in various departments as needed by plant production.

Educational Qualification

• Applicants should have a High School Diploma or GED

Work Experience

• A bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years of experience in supply chain work (preferred)

Duties/Responsibilities

• Acts as a safety watch for tank/hopper car entry.
• Assists various plant production personnel and under the direction of skilled labor performs car repair work involving burning, fitting, grinding, blasting, and painting.
• Completes tasks that may include changing gaskets, hoses, and valves, repairing piping, and pipe fitting.
• Maintains area in a neat and orderly manner and reports work hazards.
• Uses a variety of tools and equipment including but not limited to pneumatic and hydraulic tools, jacks, cutting torches, and forklifts proficiently.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

• Able to follow written or verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
• Dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts, including overtime
• Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of weight volume, and other units of measurement.
• Must be able to demonstrate job-related knowledge of measuring devices such as rules.
• Must be able to work any shift
• Must be able to work effectively and efficiently both as a member of a team and independently.

Work Conditions

• Exposed to dirt, fumes, smoke, and heat.
• Exposed to dirt, fumes, smoke, and heat.
• Manual dexterity in operating control levers and buttons.
• Moderate physical exertion is required. Positions relatively heavy objects by using a forklift or other mechanical means.
• Physical effort in lifting and carrying materials and attaching rigging devices. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Possible exposure to hazardous materials or hazardous waste from leaks or spills of these materials while moving or storing them.
• Some climb into and out of vehicles, crane cabs, etc.
• Some outside work possible minor cuts and bruises. Must exercise caution in the operation of equipment in confined areas.
• Work outdoors often and be exposed to the elements.
