The company is hiring an Engineering Specialist (Metallurgy) who will help to build world-class, and state-of-the-art smart vehicles in the world.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a Bachelor’s Degree completed from a college or university
  • Maintain Material Certifications

Work Experience

  • Possess 5+ years of manufacturing experience with Metallurgy

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Apply metallurgical engineering principles and analytical techniques to establish and continuously improve manufacturing processes and products as well as troubleshoot and diagnose failures both in-house and field.
  • Develop action plans as required to investigate, prioritize, and diagnose failure-related quality concerns especially surrounding heat treatment processes, powdered metal components, welding concerns, corrosion, and fracture analysis for both parts and equipment. Summarize and develop reports for findings and investigative work.
  • Continue to develop and build SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) library for component elemental composition and material morphology images per operation, for both internal and external suppliers. Utilize this database to troubleshoot warranty returns and internal failures by identifying contaminate’ s composition.
  • Responsible for the calibration, operation, instructions, and daily and preventative maintenance of all metallurgical lab equipment including SEM, stereoscope, met allograph, polishing, grinding/cutting saws, mounting press, and hardness testers.
  • Understand all heat-treating steel processes including Vacuum Carburization, FNC, induction hardening, and blank steel processing.
  • Conduct cursory heat treatment inspections (surface hardness, case depth, core hardness). Able to review furnace and incoming steel part data around a suspect population of parts to determine the goodness or a remediation plan for that material.
  • Able to prepare and evaluate microstructure samples.
  • Support new launch teams.
  • Support Manufacturing Process Engineering activity, and drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Visual Factory Management Ergonomic analysis knowledge and experience
  • Mechanical aptitude, familiarity with machining operations

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical/Material Science
  • Powdered metal, steel heat treating, corrosion, and weld operations experience
  • Equipment experience: SEM, Met allograph, inverted stereoscope, stereo microscope, grinding and polishing machines, precision saws, digital and automatic optical microscopes (AOM), bore scope
  • Method and Standard experience and familiarity: ASTM E18 E10 E45 E112 A29; SAE J864 and J423; ISO 4406
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience (Black Belt)
  • 8D and 5 Why corrective action and problem-solving skills
  • Lean Tools 5S, Kanban, Poka-yoke, and Value Stream Mapping DMAIC and DMADV (DFSS) Project Methodology experience TQM and Kaizen Methods FMEA, PPAP, and DOEs experience
