Job Profile
The company (Smart Infrastructure, a Siemens company) is recruiting a Tool/Prototype Technician who will be responsible for preventive maintenance, repair of support equipment, training, and overseeing overall shop functions.
Responsible for making Engineered prototype parts, precision tools (such as jigs, molds, dies), special guides, and holding devices, which are then used in the manufacturing process to make products.
Work with a variety of materials including metals, alloys, plastics, and ceramics.
Also, involve using computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines, so a solid background in a variety of technical and IT processes is important.
Educational Qualification
- Applicants may be required a High School Diploma
- 2 years of vocational training (desired)
Work Experience
- Possess at least 3 years of practical experience (needed)
- Basic knowledge and experience of principles, procedures, work routines, and skills in the related field of work, gained through a structured and focused 2-year vocational training period.
- CAD/CAM experience preferred (Solid works and Master cam)
- Experience with Tooling and adjusting Speeds and Feeds
- Minimum of 1 year’s programming 3-axis CNC machines using either CAM program or G Code. Hurco machine center, Mitsubishi wire EDM.
- Preferred Experience with Press break press, Hurco machine center, and Mitsubishi wire EDM.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Design templates and jigs to be used as work aids for the convenient fabrication of products and parts
- Diagnose and troubleshoot problems and perform repairs on tools, manually operated dies, and progressive dies
- File and finish workpieces using the appropriate hand tools to ensure products are smooth and that they fit together properly
- Interface with external and internal customers, handle supplier and customer concerns, and work with team members to solve problems during the production process
- Proceed with all day-to-day Tool and Prototype Tech operations, and adheres to internal working rules and guidelines.
- Select the appropriate metals and materials to be used based on properties, ensuring they meet project specifications
- Use sketches, blueprints, specifications, and models to plan operations for the fabrication of dies, tools, and assemblies, ensuring safety and maximum efficiency
- Utilize hand and machine tools to assemble parts of tools and dies and to repair and modify gauges, jigs, and dies
- Verify dimensions of finished parts to ensure they conform to specifications using dial indicators, gauge blocks, calipers, micrometers, and or other measurement equipment.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to program and operate CNC mills, CNC EDMs, CNC lathes, and other standard tool room equipment.
- Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and tool drawings.
- Ability to select correct materials based on machining, heat treating, welding, wear, and polishing.
- Analytical thinking combined with conceptual and organizational abilities.
- Complete knowledge of equipment and practices associated with fixture, prototype, and mold building.
- Excellent PC skills, including the ability to learn new programs.
- Full knowledge of precision inspection practices, hand tools, and equipment.
- In-depth knowledge of materials used in the fabrication of tools, prototypes, and molds.
- Proactive at executing daily tasks and achieving long-term goals.
- Team-oriented personality
- Uses computer-aided design software for creating complex models, patterns, templates, and component detailed drawings for new product concepts
