Job Profile

The company is searching for a Process Assistant (Crusher) who will maintain all crusher/clay/raw storage equipment, buildings, and grounds areas by completing assigned inspections, housekeeping, and lubrication schedules for these areas.

The position will work under the direction of the Crusher Supervisor.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a High School Diploma or Equivalent

Work Experience

  • Possess relevant work experience (preferred)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist during plant shutdowns
  • Assist in cleaning up, inspecting, repairing, and lubricating all Crusher Equipment
  • Assist in clinker storing and reclaiming and maintaining equipment used for these jobs
  • Assists in safety inspections and is aware of safety and environmental, MSHA, and EPA requirements
  • Initiate work orders for repairs and assist with the repairs
  • Monitor and maintain raw material inventories (Clay and LS/Clay) to ensure the plant has sufficient raw materials for operation
  • Operates jackhammer as needed to remove product build-up
  • Operates skid steer loaders, backhoes, haul and dump trucks, guzzlers, air compressors, water trucks, and other quarry equipment as needed
  • Operates the raw material stackers to build stockpiles
  • Perform pre-shift area and equipment inspections daily for safety, maintenance, and housekeeping: correcting problems as needed using best judgment or notifying the Process Control Technician or Quarry Supervisor
  • Relieves the Process Control Technician and Equipment Operators as needed and performs assigned tasks for that position
  • Shovels and sweeps up spills as they occur to maintain plant housekeeping
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to maintain effective communication with plant operational personnel, maintenance, contractors, and supervision
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics
  • Ability to read, understand and follow written instructions and equipment operating manuals
  • Ability to use a skid steer, backhoe, haul trucks, dump trucks, forklift, and front-end loader
  • Ability to use hand tools, jackhammers, shovels, brooms, sledgehammers, impact tools, hydraulic pressing tools, welder, and cutting torch
  • Ability to use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required
  • Ability to work rotating, 8 and 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Excellent work ethic – high standard of performance and production
  • Implements and applies all safety rules and regulations as set forth by MSHA and policies/procedures
  • Must have basic computer skills – email capable, Word and Excel spreadsheets
  • Must understand and comply with lock-out procedure and safety requirements

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb up to 100’ on ladders and catwalks and perform work
  • Ability to distinguish between the colors red, amber, and green
  • Lift up to 50 pounds from ground to waist and carry 20 feet
  • Manual dexterity to operate equipment and use basic hand tools
  • Must be able to use jackhammer, shovel, broom, and wheelbarrow for up to 8 hours per day for various plant cleanup tasks
  • Visual acuity, speech & hearing, hand & eye coordination
  • Walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, driving, and squatting to perform the essential functions of the position
  • Additional requirements include the ability to drive a motor vehicle
  • Able to reason through difficult operations problems, resolve said problems, or relate same to others
  • Ability to understand and speak clearly to communicate by radio in English
  • The capability of working for long periods of time in extreme heat and in dusty areas, confined spaces, and heights

Working Conditions

  • Works in all weather conditions including heat, cold, ice, rain, and high humidity, and is required to work in all plant environments.
  • Will be exposed to vibrating equipment and mechanical and electrical hazards and heights.
  • May have exposure to dust, cement, clay, gypsum, sand, diesel exhaust, lubricants, solvents, various fuels, etc. (See MSDSs)
