The company is looking for a Welder (Mast Arm) to join its team.

Education Level

Work Experience

  • 1-year previous experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication environment, or have graduated from an acceptable Technical Training Program focused on welding
  • 1-year experience reading and using blueprints
  • Must pass GMAW and FCAW weld test and maintain certification

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for understanding the proper use of all equipment in the arms area or small parts, including but not limited to pipe saw, Pederick pipe bender, arm bender, plasma, drills, welding equipment, welding positioner, cutting torch, jib cranes, deburr lathe, fitter jigs, etc.
  • Fit a variety of parts to Valmont or Customer specifications and tolerances
  • Frequently lifts, pushes, and pulls up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to operate various forklifts and electric pallet jacks to move product
  • Operate welding equipment to perform MIG or Flux Core welding to meet all applicable AWS and customer requirements
  • Operates jib crane or overhead crane to lift and position components exceeding 50 pounds
  • Perform visual inspections to identify material discrepancies to ensure welds have been completed satisfactorily in compliance with applicable drawings and specifications
  • Read and interpret work orders and daily production schedules
  • Read drawings, blueprints, specifications, and a variety of measuring instruments including tape measure, level, and protractor
  • Use GMAW or FCAW processes to tack welding together assemblies consisting of components of various shapes, sizes, and weights. Read and interpret welding symbols
  • Use motorized grinders, buffers, stone grinders, die grinders, and drills to assemble parts according to prescribed specifications, codes, and drawings.
  • Use shop mathematics; add, subtract, multiply, divide decimals, and fractions, and calculate angles.
  • Use a weld gauge to measure weld size
  • Uses proper safety equipment and procedures
  • Write entries on a daily production log to show work completed
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to use common manufacturing math
  • Must be able to read and write English

Credible Qualifications

  • 2 years of previous experience working in an assembly environment
  • 2 years of prior experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
  • 2 years of prior experience operating hand or power tools
  • The ability to accurately and honestly check one’s work for quality assurance
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Working Environment

  • Ambient temperatures in the work area coincide with seasonal weather changes.
  • Exposure to metal and smoke fumes due to surrounding processes.
  • Abnormal noise levels throughout the shop require that hearing protection be worn at all times.
  • Direct exposure to dirt, grease, mill scale, cutting fluid, rust inhibitors, and metal particles and splinters.
  • Be exposed to production facilities where specific PPE will be required such as hand, hearing, foot, eye, and head protection.
  • Be frequently exposed to outside elements for short periods.
  • Being outside will also expose them to material handling equipment such as forklifts, straddle trucks, and shag trucks.
