Job Profile
The company is recruiting a CNC Programming Engineering Technician who will work to lead activities and support the plant/location team to achieve manufacturing excellence.
Education Level
- High School Diploma or GED
Work Experience
- 3-5 years of CNC programming experience with various types of machining and Fanuc controls (must)
- Experience with close-tolerance high-speed machining.
License/Certification
- Technical Certificate or program completion in CNC machining or CNC/CMM programming.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Adequate and timely completion of assigned tasks.
- CAM post editor file creation, organization, and management.
- Choose proper tooling, feeds and speeds, tool holders, and probes required for various materials and part geometry.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers, management, customers, and others courteously and professionally.
- Create and maintain a master tool list
- Create and upload operator-ready G&M code program solutions for safe CNC Turning and Machining Center production operations.
- Create CNC tool pathing to ensure safe clearance movements around work pieces with non-interference proofing.
- Create programs for parts with geometry or tolerances that exceed the capabilities of manual inspection equipment.
- Create work instructions for program setups and machine use.
- Demonstrate understanding of when to utilize high-efficiency practices and advanced tool paths.
- Develop advanced manufacturing programs for high-speed CNC Turning and Machining Center applications.
- Generation of CAM System wire and solid modelling files.
- Interface with supervisor or area lead regarding troubleshooting support, edits, and optimization.
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement activities.
- Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to and enforcing all safety procedures and policies, including the use of personal protective and other equipment as required.
- Manage tooling to ensure no stockouts
- Operate machinery as requested by management.
- Perform in-process inspection using manual inspection equipment.
- Responsible for day-to-day machine shop coordination of programming issues.
- The Manufacturing CNC Programmer may perform other special projects or duties as required to support business needs.
- Understand inspection intent.
- Work with various tooling vendors to reduce tooling spend without negatively impacting quality, efficiency, or morale.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Able to choose proper tooling and operation sequences dependent on required tolerances.
- Able to read drawings and specifications with a proficient understanding of GD&T.
- Able to understand and translate G&M machine code
- Competent in maintaining databases or archives of programs, operation sheets, tooling, and work instructions.
- Demonstrate competence in efficient CNC/CMM programming techniques
- Familiar with individual CNC/CMM machine safety features/dangers as they relate to production and operator usage.
- Familiar with ISO and LEAN manufacturing practices.
- Knowledge of CAM and CAD software (Mastercam, Autodesk Fusion, Siemens NX CAM, Autodesk Power MILL, and ESPRIT).
- Knowledgeable of how various materials and conditions affect metrology.
- Knowledgeable in manufacturing practices for various materials.
- Knowledgeable of various CMM probe and stylus types as well as CNC tool holder types.
- Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands, and be able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
- Must be available and willing to work overtime as needed
- Must be proficient in Surf CAM software.
- Must be self-motivated, an independent thinker, and able to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Must demonstrate excellent troubleshooting techniques and critical thinking skills.
- Must demonstrate proficient computer literacy.
- Proficient with CAM and CAD software.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Work Environment
- Balances desk work with hands-on troubleshooting
- Exposed to machine noise and metal particles when on-site
- Uses computers and CAD/CAM software for programming
- Wears PPE during machine testing or setup
- Works in both office and shop floor environments
