Job Profile

The company is looking for a Pipe Fitter who will remove, target, fabricate, repair, and install systems per drawings and test marine piping systems onboard ships in various stages of repair and modernization.

Perform a variety of skilled duties such as general pipe fitting, burning/brazing, use of various mechanical attached fittings (MAF), sketching, and testing of various piping systems in the shop or onboard the vessel.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or 5+ years of experience in pipe fitting or a related trade

Work Experience

  • 5 years or more experience in a pipe fitting apprenticeship program

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assemble and connect pipes, fittings, and valves using various techniques, such as welding, soldering, and brazing
  • Collaborate with other tradespeople, such as welders and electricians, to ensure proper installation and functioning of piping systems
  • Cut, thread, and bend pipes to fit specific measurements and angles
  • Install, test, and maintain piping systems, including fuel, water, and hydraulic systems
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning and inspecting pipes and fittings
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and specifications to determine piping system requirements
  • Remove, target, and fabricate new piping spools/assembly sections from existing conditions
  • Repair and replace damaged or corroded pipes, fittings, and valves
  • Test piping systems for leaks and other defects
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with piping systems

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and diagrams
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Blueprint reading and interpretation
  • Communication and teamwork skills
  • Have the basic Pipe Fitting tools required to complete daily tasks
  • Identification of piping by class, schedule, size, and the system they are used on
  • Knowledge of piping systems, materials, and installation techniques
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) access card.
  • Must be able to read, write, comprehend simple instructions, and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Must be able to wear applicable PPE (Hard Hat, Safety Glasses, Gloves, Steel Toe/Metatarsal Boots, Hearing Protection)
  • Physical stamina and dexterity
  • Physical stamina to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment
  • Pipe fitting and installation techniques
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving
  • Welding, soldering, and brazing techniques

Work Environment

  • Handles heavy pipes and tools, requiring physical strength
  • May work in shifts, including nights, weekends, or emergencies
