Job Profile
The company is searching for a Tooling Manager to join its team.
Education Level
- Degree in Engineering (or Engineering Technology Diploma may be considered), journeyman in tool and die, or relevant work experience
Work Experience
- At least 5 years in a leadership role with proven leadership practices.
- Strong understanding of assembly processes, stamping processes, advanced GD&T, ergonomics, PPAP, production experience, and other automotive-related activities.
- Must have an automotive manufacturing background
Duties/Responsibilities
- Continually monitor department procedures for effectiveness.
- Develop and maintain training plans for all reports to support business objectives outlined in the plan.
- Ensure department activities are monitored for accuracy and effectiveness.
- Leads the tooling department to align with maintenance and engineering departments to support launch activities and manage the implementation of continuous and quality tooling improvements for existing customer programs.
- Maintain continuous improvement initiatives aimed at exceeding business plan targets and report at an appropriate frequency.
- Maintains KPI’s for the department.
- Oversees the implementation and follow-up of the tooling work order and preventative maintenance program at the plant in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Provide guidance, instruction, and leadership to Tooling technicians.
- Quote tooling (engineering changes) and piece price internally by developing process and strip layouts.
- Responsible for providing communication and reporting of their department’s progress/results in achieving divisional goals, and the regular operation of the department.
- Review department key measurables and action plan as appropriate to correct negative trends.
- Support Manufacturing Engineering with the design of assembly and weld tooling.
- Support Vendors when required.
- Works with the Group tooling engineer during launches to support and buy-off component suppliers’ stamping and forming processes
- Other duties as assigned
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Computer proficiency, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project) and literacy in CAD.
- Knowledge of progressive dies, transfer dies, blank forming, tube forming, and roll forming.
- Knowledge of weld fixturing and tool design
- Must possess human relations skills and maturity of judgement
- Must possess strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, financial, and time management skills
- Strong knowledge of CAD/CAM software
