Job Profile
The company is hiring an HVAC Machinist who will use manual lathes and mills to manufacture and repair compressor components.
Perform as an integral member of the team by interpreting drawings; determining dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and set-up requirements to maximize efficiency; creating set-up sheets based on tooling selection criteria; monitoring and verifying the accuracy of each job’s initial set-up and outcome; and revising documents based on engineering changes in addition to other routine tasks within the department.
Education Level
- High School Diploma or GED supplemented by 3+ years of operating manual machines in a mid to heavy manufacturing environment.
Work Experience
- Experience in the application of precision measuring equipment, including but not limited to calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, and indicators.
- Experience operating a lathe.
License/Certification
- Technical certificate
Duties/Responsibilities
- Adherence to safety and quality standards, and dedication to reporting and correcting all issues
- Dedicated to maintaining a clean work environment as well as ensuring that the accuracy of machinery in use stays within factory specifications.
- Dedication to maintaining a respectful workplace environment
- Inspection of compressor components to be reused in rebuilds.
- Inventory of supplied parts.
- Maintaining oil and coolant levels of machines, as well as performing any preventive maintenance.
- Millwright duties include teardown and rebuild of compressors, as well as cleaning parts to make them ready for assembly.
- Writing scopes for component repair found out of spec using outside services.
- Other duties would include dimensional inspection of incoming factory-supplied compressor parts.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to accurately read drawings and specifications with an understanding of geometric tolerances and dimensions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships
- Ability to learn and adapt to changing technology
- Ability to set priorities and efficiently advance projects to achieve customer and quality objectives
- Ability to use various mathematical skills to calculate material fabrication, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry, and algebra
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and follow through with assignments with minimal supervision
- Working knowledge of various tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, and inserts used on various machines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to grind HSS tooling to print specifications for specific part features.
- Aluminum Tig welding.
- Previous experience in rotating equipment repair.
- Previous experience with thin-walled aluminum ring machining and manual lathe threading, as well as thin-walled split ring machining using pie jaws and or parting off of a complete part in one setup.
- Proficient in both Manual Mill and Lathe operations, setup, tooling selection, and work holding.
- Be familiar with a low-production, high-tolerance environment operating both manual mills and lathes.
