Job Profile

The company is seeking a Machining Technician who will be responsible for the setup and operation of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments for welding operations.

Responsible for the fabrication, modification, or repair of mechanical equipment.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associate’s Degree from a 2-year College or Technical School

Work Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of Machinist experience
  • Welding proficiency with MIG, TIG, Shielded Metal Arc, and brazing applications

License/Certification

  • Valid forklift license issued by Challenge Manufacturing
  • Valid Scissor Lift license issued by Challenge Manufacturing

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Advanced weld fixture adjustments for complex systems
  • Complete and manage work orders via the Plex systems
  • Confers with engineering, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems
  • Measures, marks, and scribes’ dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining as necessary
  • Proactively participate in continuous improvement efforts and drive process, tooling, and equipment enhancements that will improve production efficiency and product quality
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used for machinery work
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced tools to perform precision machining operations
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate parts and components
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications, using measuring and inspection tools as necessary

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as portability, statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Able to prioritize tasks

Work Environment

  • Exposure to high and low voltage components and systems
  • Exposure to noise, fumes, dirt, heat, sparks, and smoke
  • Exposure to pinch points, rotating equipment
  • Eye protection required; hearing protection required; cut-resistant arm guards required; cut-resistant gloves required
  • Frequently walks, bends, twists, turns, and lifts while performing functions of the position
  • May also be exposed to water, vibration, dust, grease, and oil
  • Moderate-sized equipment used around the work area
  • Possible cuts, scrapes, burns, or bruises
