Job Profile

The company is hiring a Transfer Press Operator who will set up, operate, and monitor up to 2,000-ton transfer presses, ensuring that quality stampings are produced in accordance with Challenge Manufacturing Quality Standards, production orders, and engineering specifications.

Monitors the press and makes adjustments throughout the stamping run.

Performs necessary quality checks, records information in the enterprise resource planning system (ERP), and performs general utility work to meet the work schedule.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma (credible)

Work Experience

  • Possess work-related experience (a plus)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Replace steel coils at regular intervals to maintain continuous production output.
  • Completes appropriate paperwork and other documentation (hourly count boards).
  • Completes online work center and operator inspection sheets to verify process is stable and all visual inspection and gauge requirements are being met.
  • Ensures and maintains the safety and cleanliness of the work area by performing housekeeping duties.
  • Frequently loads, unloads, lifts/moves, pulls/pushes, or positions products and materials weighing up to 40 pounds, occasionally weighing more (assistance given with heavier objects by work partner[s]), throughout the assigned work center. Press operations involve frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, turning, and lifting.
  • May select the proper rack or bin to pack parts or store parts for the next process.
  • Meets daily production requirements.
  • Performs all duties to ensure the department and plant meet daily and weekly production requirements.
  • Performs and cross-trains on various work centers as required.
  • Properly packs parts in the correct pin/storage container per packaging instructions to meet customer requirements. Ensures proper labeling requirements are followed. Uses a personal computer (PC), Plex system, keyboard, and mouse.
  • References production orders in Plex to stamp product per Job Element Sheet (JES).
  • Select and verify appropriate steel coils to ensure the product meets customer requirements.
  • Sets up and adjusts stamping press according to die set-up sheet.
  • Visually inspects parts from the stamping press per Challenge Manufacturing quality standards to ensure proper form, fit, and function. Ensures customer and Challenge Manufacturing quality standards are met per gage instructions, first piece inspection approval, problem containment processes, quality alerts, and other quality standards called out in the Challenge Manufacturing Quality Policy or Plex System specific for each work center.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to adjust press fingers
  • Ability to adjust press speed or learn to adjust press speed
  • Ability to frequently lift/move material weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to read and interpret job element sheets
  • Ability to set press height (shut height) or the ability to learn to set press height
  • Ability to use a variety of gauges (functional, go/no go) required
  • Ability to work as a contributing member within a team environment
  • PC and keyboard/mouse skills (required)
