Job Profile

The company is seeking a Structural Welder who will be responsible for welding and assembling structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, buildings, and pipe.

Education Level

• High School Diploma (credible)

Work Experience

• Minimum 4 years of industrial construction/maintenance industry experience

Duties/Responsibilities

• Additional responsibilities not listed may be required
• Bolts, clamps, and weld together metal components of products such as piping systems, place, pipe, and tube or structural shapes, using arc and arc gas welding equipment
• Examines the weld for bead size and other specifications
• May be required to use Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, or Shielded Metal Arc welding processes
• May manually apply filler rod to supply weld metal. May clean or degrease weld joint or workplace, using a wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bath. May repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes. May remove excess weld, defective weld material, slag, and spatter, using carbon arc gouge, hand scrapper, grinder, or power chipper. May preheat work piece, using hand torch or heating furnace. May cut metal plates or structural shapes
• Selects equipment and plans layouts, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

• Experience with structural steel assembly
• Expert in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding
• Proficient with welding tools and safety standards
• Skilled in reading blueprints and schematics
• Strong metal fabrication and fitting abilities

Work Environment

• Exposed to heat, noise, and fumes
• May work at heights or in confined spaces
• Stands, bends, and lifts for long periods
• Wears protective gear at all times
• Works in indoor and outdoor environments

Physical Demands

• Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions
