Job Profile
The company is seeking a Structural Engineer who will work collaboratively with the Fabrication Shop.
Education Level
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural or Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural
Work Experience
- 4 years of experience in structural with familiarity with wood, steel, masonry, and concrete buildings, including structural calculation, foundation design, detailing, and construction administration
Duties/Responsibilities
- Collaborate with company operations to understand the complete application and needs
- Coordinate activities relative to the development of new equipment
- Design structures and foundations for sawmill, kiln, cogeneration, and planer mill equipment and buildings
- Develop and improve lumber processing equipment
- Effectively model detailed concepts and designs using 3D modeling software
- Facilitate the smooth and quick approval of plans
- Learn and take on engineering projects with a mechanical emphasis when structural emphasis is not needed
- Prepare plans, drawings, and calculations that will be submitted to the county, city, or other governing bodies
- Provide leadership and direction to fabricators, assemblers, machinists, and shop personnel
- Work to learn and improve knowledge of the industry and equipment continuously
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- California P.E. or S.E. license with the ability to get reciprocity in Oregon and Washington
- Demonstrated ability to contribute creative solutions and succeed in an innovative environment
- Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD and willingness to learn SolidWorks
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, in particular Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of the structural provisions of the California Building Code, IBC, and ASCE 7
- Strong problem-solving, multi-tasking, and organizational skills
- Working knowledge of structural steel, welding, and foundation design
Work Environment
- Collaborates with teams and contractors
- May work in all weather conditions
- Uses computers and design software
- Wears safety gear when on-site
- Works in offices and on construction sites
