Job Profile
The company is seeking a Valve Technician/Specialist who will provide construction, repair, and support for the products.
Educational Qualification
- Applicants should have a High School Diploma or GED
Work Experience
- Possess work-related experience (preferred)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards.
- Performs welded repairs by utilizing air arc cutting torch and stick or wire welding equipment.
- Performs welding and mechanical repairs to tank and hopper cars when required.
- Repairs, straightens, removes, and reworks car parts, brakes, underframes, center plates, gears, couplers, valves, etc. using various hand and power tools.
- Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind weld, slag, or spatter.
- Welds components related to tank cars including tanks, bolsters, underframes, side sills, etc.
Other Requirements
- Able to pass a drug screen and physical.
- Disassembles and assembles fittings on tank cars.
- Lift up to 50 pounds as needed and perform tasks that require climbing and balancing on ladders and platforms.
- Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner and report potential hazards.
- Test, rebuild, and test the valve to reveal possible defects.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Demonstrate job-related computational knowledge; for example, be able to read a ruler
- Must pass the applicable welding test as prescribed by the company
Environmental Conditions
- Moderate to heavy physical effort is involved. Lifts and carries necessary equipment to the car to perform the operation. Climbs, walks and balances on top of the car while welding.
- Must follow prescribed safety rules to avoid possible injury.
- Possibility of exposure to x-ray radiation hazards.
- Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind off excess weld slag or spatter.
