Job Profile

The organization is looking for a Boiler Operator who will assist in the performance of duties necessary to keep the physical structure and associated equipment in good repair.

Minor electrical work, mechanical repairs, and other duties relating to maintenance.

Assist in the performance of duties necessary to operate and maintain steam generators and other auxiliary equipment necessary for producing steam for heat and power.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Training in boiler room operating techniques and related activities
  • Shop Courses (a plus)

Work Experience

  • Possess 2 years of experience in the facilities maintenance field

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Working knowledge of fire alarm and signal systems.
  • Assists in maintaining electrical wiring and emergency generator systems.
  • Assists in replacing, installing, repairing, and testing electrical circuits, equipment, appliances, and lighting systems as required.
  • Clean the boiler room as needed.
  • Inspects and tests equipment/systems.
  • Keep logs on each Steam Generator.
  • Maintain established Hospital and Departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control, and comply with codes and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains routine records of all inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs performed on any equipment or system.
  • Observes various meters and gauges and take appropriate action for safe operation.
  • Operates and maintains Steam Generators.
  • Performed preventive maintenance on equipment and systems as required.
  • Performs manual duties as requested (i.e. moving supplies or furniture, replacing light bulbs, removing trash or scrap material).
  • Performs periodic inspections of mechanical rooms throughout the facility to ensure proper operation of heat, air conditioning and ventilation, and medical support equipment.
  • Performs urgent corrective, routine, and requisitioned repairs of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing system as required.
  • Start, stop, and switch lead/lag Steam Generators as appropriate.
  • Performs other related work as required or requested.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to apply, understand and carry out instruction furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents.
  • Knowledge of boiler operation, cleaning and maintenance, and safety procedures.
  • Should possess a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Illinois prior to appointment and during the tenure of employment.
