Job Profile
The company is searching for a Welder Inspector who will safely lay out, fit up, and weld in all positions as well as audit and inspect in-process piece part and fabrication assemblies to assure adherence to quality, process, and engineering standards according to company drawings, specifications, and workmanship standards.
Educational Qualification

Work Experience
- Possess a minimum of 3 years of welding experience and 2 years of Paving Products experience
- 3 years of Quality Assurance experience in fabrication environments (preferred)
- Work experience as part of a team (desired)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Be responsible for putting safety first with an inspirational goal to prevent all injuries, occupational illnesses, and safety incidents.
- Welds components as per American Welding Society (AWS) standards and engineering/manufacturing prints and documentation.
- Interprets metric drawings that use Geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T) to setup fixtures, tack, and weld components in horizontal and flat positions using welding gun, cutting torches, carbon arc, and other fabrication tools (i.e., grinder, chisel, tip cleaner).
- Includes the use of grinding, flame cutting, and arc gouging equipment.
- Coordinates and prioritizes work to meet production schedules.
- Supports the movement of materials for Fabrication and Paint areas as well as electronically and manually maintain documentation for labor hour records, process work orders, and production documentation.
- May have responsibility for the operation of robots including robot area safety and robotic checks (torch, straightness, harness inspection, etc.).
- Inspects and measures items for fit, alignment, dimensional accuracy, and functional operations according to design records, engineering standards, military standards, and other non-print requirements in all fabrication, purchased, and internally manufactured products and updates metrics as required.
- Perform audits fabrication and 1st operations products and processes.
- Compiles issues and communicates NCR to appropriate areas on identified fabrication nonconformance.
- Identify items for rejection and record test results.
- Respond, manage, and communicate fabrication ANDON for form or function issues, later working with assembly teams to identify and solve problems.
- Work with support groups including Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Development Engineering, Inspection, and others regarding inspection methods and results.
- Work with fabrication MEs and Quality Analysts to install in-process checks in the Manufacturing Process.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to demonstrate proficient use of inspection and weld inspection hand tools, surface plates, gauge blocks, and other setup tools.
- Ability to read fabrication blueprints/engineering drawings
- Basic computer skills with emphasis on windows, SAP, and lotus notes.
- High level of detail orientation.
- Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T) and IE Specs with the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and weld symbols.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to function in a team environment; flexible and able to perform other inspection functions as necessary.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of fabrication operations, weld procedures, processes, and fixturing required. (Including machining, press break, and bend allowances)
Work Environment
- May be exposure to welding fumes.
- Noise levels of 85db or greater.
- Operate overhead cranes, jib cranes, and hoists.
- Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. frequently.
- May work at multiple heights.
- Climb on equipment, machines, ladders, man lifts, and various step stools.
- May stand for a minimum of 8-hour shifts with minimal breaks.
- Kneel, squat, and crawl on knees and can expect to work in awkward positions, including forward reach, lateral reach, squat, overhead reaching, twisting and forward head, and rotation of the neck and will work in tight spaces.
- Use fine motor skills and will have tasks that require repetitive grasping, pushing, pulling rotating.
- Frequent use of hand tools including welder, grinder, air tools, pliers, reamers, etc.
- On-site, it is required to wear Personal Protective Equipment: hearing protection, safety glasses, steel-toed/metatarsal foot gear, and protective welding clothing and equipment including jackets, chaps, helmets, grinding shields, etc.
