Job Profile

The Company is searching for an Electrical Service Field Technician who will be responsible for the dismantling and reassembly of rotating equipment.

The Technician will ensure quality and customers which are the basis of all actions.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a Journeyman Red Seal Electrician Certificate or be an Electrical Engineering Technologist
  • Technical Education or Trade Certificate would be an asset

Work Experience

  • Possess 3 to 5 years in a similar role or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of field service repair, commissioning, upgrades, and customer service experience within the Electrical Distribution service field.
  • Experience in field service-type work

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for performing on-site or in-house servicing and repair of company products
  • Control systems and PLC
  • Dismantle, troubleshoot, investigate, repair, and re-assemble all types of electrical and mechanical apparatus in an offsite or “field” location
  • LV Drives
  • Medium and Low Voltage Switchgear
  • Medium Voltage Terminations
  • Metering solutions
  • Perform emergency and preventive maintenance and installation on a 24/7 on-call basis with regional responsibility
  • Protection relays
  • Provide technical support to customers on operational or maintenance aspects of system equipment
  • Transformer testing
  • Work from drawings, sketches, schematic layouts, test specifications, written or verbal instructions from supervision
  • Mechanical Operations
  • Perform dynamic balancing in plant balancing stand
  • Perform dynamic balancing of assembled equipment
  • Perform field vibration analysis and balancing
  • Record vibration data
  • Perform basic stick welding and brazing
  • Fabricate necessary tooling to assist in work
  • Dismantle and assemble dynamic couplings
  • Supervise rigging and equipment handling during in-plant repairs and overhauls
  • Safety and General Housekeeping-
    -Assist with general housekeeping of plant
    -Comply with plant safety policy and report all accidents
    -Ensure proper use and safe operation of all equipment and processes
    -Inspect, troubleshoot and make necessary repairs to all shop equipment
    -Keep personal tools and shop tools in safe and good operating condition
  • Training and Procedures-
    -Ensure compliance withal QA requirements and shop standards
    -Inspect all jobs prior to shipping
    -Obtain approval prior to job implantation
    -Prepare equipment for shipping
    -Report problems to the lead hand/supervisor
  • Dismantling and assembly of rotating equipment-
    -Complete service order card
    -Determine the bearing type, size, seals, shields, etc.
    -Document bearing and arrangement
    -Identify parts for proper assembly
    -Measure all mechanical fits
    -Paint
    -Perform electrical tests (i.e., Meggar surge comparison, hypo, core lost)
    -Perform final run tests and vibration checks
    -Perform grit blasting of equipment
    -Properly store and clean parts
    -Reassemble
    -Remove and install bearings
    -Withdraw materials
  • Low Voltage AC Three-Phase Winding-
    -Perform core loss and loop tests
    -Perform dip and bake operations
    -Perform electrical tests and record (e.g., Surge comparisons, PI Meggar)
  • Transformers (Dry Type Only)-
    -Assist winders in all aspects of transformer work
    -Dismantle transformers
    -Perform electrical tests (Meggar, TTR)
    -Reassemble

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to use and interpret drawings and manuals
  • Electro-mechanical or other electronics-related equipment knowledge is a strong asset.
  • General knowledge of all types of motors, generators, connections, insulation materials, coil installations, taping, and windings and transformers.
  • Hands-on Electro-Mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge and operation of rigging and lifting devices and Electrical testing procedures (e.g. Meggar, surge comparison, hypot, core loss, etc.); vibration analysis; field balancing
  • Travel to the site and perform inspections on various mechanical installations and repairs
