Job Profile

The company is seeking a Senior Weld Engineer who will provide the necessary welding skills and leadership to the Engineering and Operations departments to achieve optimal levels of safety, quality, productivity, and delivery to assure internal and external customer satisfaction.

Educational Qualification

Work Experience

  • Possess 5 years plus related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Hands-on experience in manual and automated welding processes

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of the weld quality control process.
  • Assist in the integration, start-up, and debugging of plant floor welding equipment.
  • Assist the Quality Assurance department in maintaining weld integrity. Interface with manufacturing and maintenance to resolve welding and welding system issues.
  • Assist with MRO crib activities.
  • Champion assigned engineering changes, communicate and coordinate accordingly with all departments.
  • Co-responsibility for working with Quality and Tooling Engineers on FMEAs and control plans.
  • Develop new welding technologies related to new products requirement.
  • Direct or participate in root cause analysis and team problem-solving activities (ex. 8D reports, department meetings, etc.).
  • Ensure utilization of continuous improvement of current processes.
  • Guides design develops and tests welding methods, materials, processes, and results.
  • Initiate cross-functional equipment design reviews.
  • Initiate purchase order requisitions for new jobs and engineering changes on welding and assembly equipment.
  • Participate in cross-functional and program management team activities.
  • Provide key input into the development of departmental strategic goals along with identifying key measurable to support the departmental goals.
  • Review and resolve all weld cut and etch and destruct-related issues.
  • Specify welding equipment, welding consumables, electrical and mechanical systems, robotic systems, and any related components associated with the welding process.
  • Support new model launches and improvement teams.
  • Support Operations in acquiring the needed level of equipment knowledge.
  • Support project engineering on new and existing programs.
  • Support tool tryouts at supplier and in-house capability run.
  • Train, coach, and mentor the welding process for weld engineers, manufacturing, and skilled trade colleagues.
  • Training Weld Engineers.
  • Works on Corporate strategic projects.
  • Program robots, pedestal welders, and all other types of welding-related equipment.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Excellent “hands-on” welding and training skills
  • High level of cooperation and commitment
  • Knowledge in robotic programming (ex. ABB, Fanuc robots, etc.)
  • Knowledge in robotic welding and material handling applications
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and weld drawings
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, product designs, safety, quality, and workflow
  • Mechanical Ability
  • Understanding of electrical/controls circuitry and schematics
  • Working knowledge of MIG and Spot-welding processes
  • Specialized knowledge of the following-
    -Weld power source, wire feeder, torch, and reamer
    -Customer welding specifications and testing requirements
    -Electrical enclosures and power requirements for welding
    -Gas metal arc welding
    -Plasma cutting, grinding, and rework applications
    -Resistance spot welding
    -Weld shielding gas technologies

Preferred Skills-

  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office at an intermediate level

Work Environment

  • Duties include but are not limited to standing, walking, twisting, bending, lifting, seeing, talking, and hearing, with an ability to travel.
  • When visiting plant site locations, employees may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, vibration, or hazardous materials.
