Job Profile
The company is recruiting a Supplier Quality Engineer to join its existing team.
This position will require a certain amount of training both in-house and off-site.
Educational Qualification
- Applicants should have a Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline or 5 years of experience in a technical field
Work Experience
- Possess 5 years of experience in electronics systems or applications (an asset) preferably LED based
Other Qualifications
- Ability to travel extensively (20-30%) (required)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong knowledge in PCB board assembly and fabrication (an asset)
- Strong understanding of semiconductor devices and their characteristics (an asset)
- Understanding of thermal management concepts and photometry of optoelectronics devices (an asset definitely)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Assist all Lighting divisional SQEs with Supplier issues as needed
- Conduct Supplier audits as required to ensure the accuracy of their internal systems and processes following Magna’s Supplier Audit process (i.e., modification from Engineering Changes, Corrective Actions, or Process Changes).
- Develop and obtain Supplier approved boundary/PPAP samples and maintenance of the boundary samples throughout the production cycle.
- Drive product improvement based on internal line rejects and returns OEM and Warranty.
- Drive Quarterly goals to meet objectives. Create and Maintain Performance KPIs.
- Effective and timely communication with Suppliers on issues regarding their Product Quality.
- Engage and support Advanced Team as required during the new launch transition phase.
- Ensure adherence to Policies/Procedures/JES (IATF 16949, Job Element Sheets)
- Ensure supplier process controls meet reliability and capability levels.
- Lead effective closure to Supplier complaints through disposition and financial re-numeration.
- Manage internal line rejections from root cause analysis through to Supplier complaints closure analyzing trends and driving corrective actions.
- Manage yearly PPAPs for carryover products and maintain PPAP records.
- Meet all commitments – confront and elevate issues timely
- Monitor and drive timely closure of Supplier initiated Engineering Changes Requests.
- Own and Lead implementation of all Containment activities in the plant. (Supplier Related)
- Own and Lead monthly Supplier Performance Reviews on Top poor-performing Suppliers with monitoring of corrective action plans.
- Own and Lead Supplier 8D’s on all supplier product issues in an urgent and timely manner. Not to exceed more than 14 days from initiation.
- Participate and Lead root cause analysis as required in Warranty returns, follow up communications with customers and provide analysis of data as required.
- Participate in Continuous Improvement activities for production related to Supplier products.
- Participate in pre-launch programs with regard to design and specifications.
- Validate and approve Supplier PPAPs in a timely manner.
- All other duties as assigned
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
Candidate must demonstrate a proven track record in performance and attendance in current position, (below 3 attendance points and below Written Warning)
- Ability to efficiently work in a fast-paced team environment.
- Able to travel and work flexible hours to accommodate international Suppliers and support Operations needs up to 25% of the time.
- Effective communication (written and verbal) with various departments within Magna Lighting Group and with customer plant liaisons.
- Knowledge of basic concepts of design output, metrology, and instrumentation.
- Knowledge of various processes (i.e., molding, coating, assembly, welding, electronics, etc.)
- Must be proficient in learning Business Operating Systems (i.e., IATF16949, IMDS, QSI, Compliance Pro, Supply Web, Customer Requirements, Trans4M, etc.)
- Organization of documentation, records, time, priority setting, and deadlines.
- Presentation skills
- Problem-solving related to manufacturing
- Proficiency in computer skills. (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Proficient in dimensional systems and analysis.
- Represent Magna Lighting in a professional manner.
- Self-Motivated, ability to initiate and follow tasks through to completion.
- To analyze, troubleshoot, and follow up on internal & customer supplier quality issues.
Work Environment
- Ability to move around on the production floor
- Ability to bend, twist, lift, reach
- Varying levels of noise or temperature
- Ability to lift a maximum of 50 lbs. periodically
- Follow a learning curve with continuous development
