Job Profile

The company is seeking a Welding Coordinator (MIG) who will be responsible for ensuring all weld verification and joining process control techniques are completed and documented in a timely manner on both new and existing programs.

Provide direction to Weld Lab and Destruct associates and contract employees in the completion of daily work responsibilities.

Follow customer specifications and alert leadership of all non-conformities while supporting the Magna Employee’s Charter and the policies and procedures of BGM.

Supervisory Role-

  • Directly leads Weld Destruct Technicians and Weld Lab Technicians

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Post-secondary Education (preferred) or related experience

Work Experience

  • Possess a minimum of 2 years of weld inspection experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive Operate standard office equipment

Duties/Responsibilities

  • 5S – Maintains and promotes good housekeeping by following the philosophy “Everything has a place. Everything in its place”.
  • Abide by BGM policies and procedures as described in the most current version of the Team Member Handbook.
  • Attend and participate in Team, Department, Plant-wide, and any other meetings as required.
  • Conduct all activities in a professional manner and positive attitude with an emphasis on personal responsibility.
  • Continually improve weld quality plant-wide and sustain the improvements.
  • Core values – Treat all team members equally, fairly, with dignity and respect without favoritism in accordance with company values.
  • Ensure process organization and productivity goals are met each week.
  • Ensure the Destruct schedule is met and the priority order is followed.
  • Follow customer specifications and alert leadership of all non-conformances.
  • Issue Weld Alerts and supports containments, including recuts and reducing bookends.
  • Know and understand Bowling Green Metalforming Quality and Environmental policies.

  • Maintain proper documentation to meet TS16949 requirements
  • Open Door Policy – Solves issues with two-way, open, and friendly communication.
  • Prepare internal and external reports as needed

  • Provide standardized work instructions and clear work direction to team members.
  • Responsible for leading and training Weld Destruct and Weld Lab team members.
  • Safety First – Obey the plant’s safety rules and procedures by wearing PPE at all times and immediately addressing all safety concerns. Promotes an environment where zero injuries are the expected standard.
  • Support all other project requests as needed.
  • Support Quality Department in containment and enhancement requirements.
  • Track and monitor inspection results and communicate to weld techs, area leaders, weld engineers, etc.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Capable of developing good working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
  • Must be able to lead a team in daily activities
  • Must be able to pass and maintain welding proficiency
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft applications
  • Must be willing to work in various locations within and outside the facility
  • Must have a functional understanding of statistical process control
  • Must have strong problem-solving, communication (written and verbal), and organizational skills
  • Must possess good working knowledge and understanding of assembly and welding processes

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time, and occasional bending and stooping.
  • Able to be flexible in hours of work on short notice in order to meet internal/external customer requirements (scheduled and non-scheduled overtime shifts, etc.)
