Job Profile

The company (Thompson Turner) is seeking a Structural Welder who will weld metal structural steel components together to fabricate and or install metal structures or supports according to customer specifications or blueprints utilizing MIG or Stick welding techniques.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

Work Experience

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain tools and equipment used in welding
  • Maintain welding filler metal control
  • Perform related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding
  • Position and clamp together components prior to welding
  • Weld metal structural components together
  • Work with the erection team to complete the assigned tasks
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Must be able to utilize basic math and read a tape measure or rule.
  • Background check and drug screen based on job location/requirements
  • May be required to work outside and be subject to severe weather as well
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly with supervisor/co-workers and understand direction from supervisor
  • Must be willing to work outside of the craft
  • Utilize a torpedo level

Work Conditions

  • Must wear safety gear, including protective goggles, masks, face shields, and safety shoes
  • Workers are surrounded by hot materials and strong light
  • 40 or more hours per week with possible weekend work
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively
  • Work in hot, cold, damp, and cramped environments

  • Must have own Stinger
  • 1 each 12” Crescent wrench
  • 1 each 2 Pound Hammer
  • 1 each 24” Level
  • 1 each 25’ Tape
  • 1 each 3/4” Spud Wrench
  • 1 each 30” Slever Bar
  • 1 each 7/8” Spud Wrench or Adjustable Spud Wrench
  • 1 each 8 Pound Hammer
  • 1 each Center Punch
  • 1 each Chalk Box
  • 1 each Chipping Hammer
  • 1 each Harness with Bolt Bag, Frog & Safety Cables 3/8” dia.
  • 1 each Stinger (whip) for Stick Welding
  • 1 each Torpedo Level
  • 1 each Tri-Square
  • 1 each Welding Hood with Cutting and Welding Lens (Must fit onto Hard Hat or be attached to Hard Hat), no Soft Cap Hoods
  • 1 pair of Leather (optional)
  • 1 pair of Welding Gloves
  • 1 set Brushes
  • 1 set Burning Goggles
  • 1 set Socket Set up to 1 1/4”
  • 2 each 1” Bull Pin
