Job Profile

The company is recruiting an Advance Assembly Engineer who will coordinate the assembly engineering projects and ensure the successful completion of all awarded assembly programs, assembly engineering changes, and assembly production projects.

Support the program team in feasibility studies and customer requests for quotes on projects requiring assembly processing.

Work as liaison with production, assembly, engineering, and vendors.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have an Engineering Degree or equivalent combination of education and work-related experience or a Certificate of Qualification as an Electrical Controls/Robotics Engineer.

Work Experience

  • Possess 10 years of related work experience in automotive Body in White assemblies (preferred)
  • Proven capability and a sound understanding of engineering principles as applied to the following areas-
    -Assembly line process and fixture design
    -Design for Manufacturing (DFM)/Design for Assembly (DFA)
    -Design of Experiments (Taguchi and classical)
    -Ergonomics, method planning, and time studies
    -Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA/PFMEA, etc.)
    -Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
    -Hemming
    -Pneumatics and hydraulics as applied to tooling
    -Production process planning
    -Quality Function Development (QFD)
    -Resistance welding and electrical controls
    -Robotics and transfer systems
    -Value Engineering (VE)

Customer Required Training – This position will be required to have some or all of the following training

  • FCA – CQMS (Corporate Quality Management System)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Adhere to customer requirements, Business Operating Systems, and company policies
  • Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) to customer standards
  • Approve all assembly-related invoices prior to payment
  • Approve all assembly-related purchase orders prior to the release of work
  • Assist Assembly team members in a safe, quality-minded, and productive manner with a sense of urgency to attain production priorities as scheduled
  • Body in White assembly tooling development.
  • Complete correspondence, forms, and reports via applicable software programs
  • Conducts feasibility studies, piece price and tool quotes, cost justification, and capital budgets.

  • Establishes and follows-up full program implementation (timing, concept, feasibility, design, construction, try-out, launch, final buy-off, prototype programs, engineering changes, etc.)
  • Follow the principles of the Magna Team member Charter
  • Follows up on new tooling programs to contain cost, timing, and quality requirements from prototype phases and die construction through tool prove-out, buy-off, and program launch.
  • Handle confidential information on a regular basis
  • Maintain effective communication and coordination with all internal customers, plant management, and team members; maintain positive team member relations; listen to issues and concerns and respond (C48) within 48 hours
  • Participate in Continual Improvement activities
  • Prepares detailed material requisitions, bills of material, blueprint drawings, and project status reports and maintains engineering records and standards.
  • Prepares drawings and material specifications as required by customers, vendors, or other departments.
  • Prepares reports, charts, and other documentation required for engineering records and projects.
  • Process development and tool design to prescribe standards for optimum productivity.
  • Promote and facilitate the Open Door process without reprisal, effective communication, and Fair Treatment
  • Promote and practice “safety first” by immediately addressing any hazards, defective equipment, or unsafe conditions within the department
  • Provide motivation and results-oriented environment

  • Review assembly incoming drawings, CAD data, sketches, EWOs, Fastrackers, etc., affecting current and awarded business
  • Supports plant by recommending productivity and systems improvements.
  • to establish methods and procedures such as FMEA, 8-D, VE/VA – Score/Spec.
  • Travel may be required
  • Work with customers, vendors, and other departments to implement the following:
  • Works independently under the direction of the Project Leader or Department Manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Able to concept complex and cost-effective MIG welding, Spot welding, and assembly tooling for automotive parts and assemblies, such as door inners, pillars, root rails, rear suspension cross members, etc.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of how job performance affects product quality and customer satisfaction
  • Able to determine the manufacturing feasibility of automotive assemblies from their piece part drawings
  • Able to maintain confidentiality, and use discretion and tact
  • Able to organize, manage and schedule multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Able to use computer and software as required
  • Able to work flexible hours to be available for three (3) shifts
  • Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, team members, suppliers, and customers
  • Strong hands-on, day-to-day operational and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong mathematical/analytical and proven problem-solving skills
