Job Profile

The company is hiring a Certified Machinist who will be responsible for delivering manufacturing engineering solutions to the Operations organization.

Provide the review, planning, and production support necessary to create and maintain manufacturing build documentation that will ensure all deliverables are in full conformance with the customer’s requirements and GKN’s engineering, procedures, and specification requirements.

Education Level

Work Experience

  • 1+ years of experience working with machining of various metallic and composite materials.
  • 1+ years of experience working with precision measuring equipment, gauges, and hand tools to assure quality standards are maintained is preferred.
  • 3+ years of thermal spray experience instead of a degree.
  • GKN Experience
  • Previous Fan Blade, Fan Disk, or Aircraft Engine component repair experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with AS-9145 Zero Defect Manufacturing, or equivalent automotive PPAP experience.
  • Experience with New Product/Process introduction (industrialization) and existing production process improvements.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a business culture, which supports the Company’s overall business objectives and goals, to include issues that involve “cost, quality, process, schedule, and people”.
  • Checks all work to ensure that quality standards are maintained and has adhered to all specifications and procedures involving internal and customer practices. Able to pass the OAP exam.
  • Continuously improve production processes by implementing Lean initiatives.
  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems.
  • Ensure the company’s commitment to maintain a safe workplace and to protect the environment through the establishment and support of the Company policy and adherence to various government regulations.
  • Exemplifying a safety-first mindset and ensuring compliance with the GKN
  • Fully comply with the “GKN Aerospace, Inc. Policy Statement on Contracting with the United States Government” in all areas of responsibility involving direct and indirect contracting with the United States Government. Ensure subordinate staff are aware of the policy and their individual responsibility and accountability for complying with it.
  • Identifies and evaluates patterns. Before removal of material, determine the method to remove material to meet customer specifications.
  • Loads and unloads etch fixtures operating the forklift.
  • Maintain a clean work environment (including assigned storage and cleaning duties) in full compliance with company standards, customer, and government regulations.
  • Maintain positive, team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers
  • Participates in activities within a global technical community and has an understanding of the interface with broader business functions within GKN.
  • Perform daily preventative maintenance of equipment in adherence with a predefined schedule.
  • Records operating parameters accurately and legibly in parts manufacturing notebook, routing sheets, resident paper or department documentation, or terminals, to ensure recording completion of work-in-process, inventories, schedules, labor expenditures, etc.
  • Responsible for introducing technical improvement initiatives for MRO operations related to Aerospace Fan Blade or Fan Disk engine components.
  • Be familiar with general shop safety practices, and should be familiar with creating and updating shop travelers, work instructions, operation sheets, tool orders, BOM’s and change management documents.
  • Deliver measurable, metrics-driven results in line with Operational goals.
  • Utilize root cause analysis, preventative, and corrective action to reduce/eliminate non-conformances.
  • Works directly with engineering to assist in the development of machine and or tank set-up programming.
  • Performs other duties, tasks, and responsibilities as assigned.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Automation integration, programming, or implementation of robotic systems for Aerospace applications with working knowledge of SCADA.
  • Knowledge of statistics and statistical process control (SPC) using Minitab.
  • Process implementation of Shot Peen, Eddy Current Inspection, Etch/Cleaning of Titanium alloys, EB Weld, FPI, Immersion Ultrasonic testing, or Robotic Grind/Blend of titanium.
  • Strong background with Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel.
  • Working knowledge of LEAN processes and practices.
  • Working knowledge of quality system models such as ISO9000, AS9100, or D1-9000
