Job Profile

The company is looking for a CNC Lathe Machinist who will set up and operate numerically controlled machines to perform a series of machining operations, such as turning, live tool milling, drilling, boring, threading, and facing on parts according to work instructions and procedures to ensure Belvac’s quality of work is upheld.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Certificate

Work Experience

  • Possess work-related experience (a plus)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Ability to perform first-piece and in-process inspection using appropriate measuring instruments such as caliper, micrometer, bore gage, and indicator
  • Ability to read the G-code program for proofreading the program before execution
  • Deburr and part mark as needed
  • Establishes the work origin reference point in the machine control
  • Identify and communicate process improvements to Manufacturing Engineering or CNC Programming staff.
  • Identify, load, measure, and set proper cutting tools in the machine
  • It is every employee’s responsibility to be aware of and work with Belvac’s current documented Quality Management System as it pertains to their job requirements.
  • It is every employee’s responsibility to improve processes to reduce setup and run-time standards when possible.
  • Knowledge of the turning process.
  • Lift workpieces manually or with a hoist to position in the work-holding device
  • Load program from network location
  • Must keep assigned machine(s) and work area cleaned and neat.
  • Observes numerical displays on the control panel and compares with data on the process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and speeds of machining cuts.
  • Operate multiple machines simultaneously.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on machines and related equipment.
  • Reads drawing, job order, setup sheet, and tooling instructions to set up and process precision machined parts
  • Recognize and compensate for tool wear
  • Must be able to operate machinery safely and follow all established Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Understand and correct for unexpected taper and other inaccuracies.
  • Understand and implement general machine set-up principles.
  • Understanding and correction of machine alarms

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain CNC equipment
  • Expertise in tool setup and part programming
  • Proficient in operating CNC lathe machines
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting technical drawings
  • Strong knowledge of precision measuring tools

Work Environment

  • Occasionally, Manufacturing, Stockroom, and Assembly employees may choose to lift items by hand for convenience. Follow correct lifting techniques and seek help or utilize mechanical lifting aids as appropriate to avoid potential injury.
  • Must be able to operate overhead cranes
  • Requires good eye, hand coordination
  • Requires long periods of standing (up to 10 hours/day)
  • Requires use of hand tools, files, sanders, and grinders
