Job Profile

The company is hiring a CNC Lathe Supervisor with strong CNC programming skills and in-depth knowledge of various types of CNC lathes, machine controls, tooling, and cutting tools.

Responsible for overseeing lathe operations, ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety, while also mentoring operators and optimizing production processes.

Education Level

Work Experience

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in CNC lathe operations, programming, and supervision
  • Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
  • Strong experience with CNC programming (G-code/M-code) and machine setup for CNC lathes.

License/Certification

  • Technical certification and an Associate Degree in machining, engineering, manufacturing, or a related field are required.
  • Extensive hands-on experience providing leadership support for a machining operation in a manufacturing environment may be considered instead of a degree or certifications.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • CNC Programming and Setup: Review drawings and specifications and plan the production process, including where and how to cut the work piece, the correct tools and materials for the job, and the sequence of steps to follow in production of the product.
  • Develop and modify CNC programs to optimize machining operations and reduce cycle times. Ensure accurate setup of machines and tooling.
  • Machine Operations and Maintenance: Supervise and oversee the operation of different CNC lathes, ensuring proper functionality of various machine controls. Coordinate routine maintenance and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Marginal position functions that are not included among the essential duties and responsibilities in this position description are also requirements of this position.
  • Process Optimization: Implement efficiency improvements to increase throughput and minimize waste. Ensure adherence to best practices in machining techniques.
  • Production Planning and Coordination: Work closely with engineers and production planners to prioritize jobs and meet deadlines while maximizing machine utilization.
  • Quality Control: Monitor machining operations to maintain high standards of precision and accuracy. Work with quality assurance teams to reduce defects and scrap rates.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure operators follow safety protocols and company policies. Conduct training sessions to reinforce safety practices and operational guidelines.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Train, mentor, and guide CNC operators. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and teamwork.
  • Tooling and Cutting Strategies: Select, evaluate, and optimize cutting tools and tool holders for different materials and applications to improve productivity and extend tool life.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to diagnose machine and tooling issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Expertise in tooling selection, tool path optimization, and material-specific cutting techniques.
  • In-depth knowledge of different CNC lathe types and various machine controls (Fanuc, Haas, Siemens, etc.).
  • Leadership skills to effectively manage, train, and support a team of CNC operators.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on efficiency and quality improvement.
  • Understanding of machining tolerances, blueprint reading, and GD&T principles.

Work Environment

  • Require exposure to a machine shop environment that includes moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and caustic chemicals.
  • Safety Glasses must be worn at all times.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
