Job Profile

The company is searching for a Grinder who will utilize a large swing grinder or small hand grinder to condition parts for defect removal.

Grinds and smoothens surfaces of parts, prior to finishing operations.

Educational Qualification

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Work Experience

  • 6-12 Months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Examines and feels the surface of work piece for defects.
  • Maintains a safe and organized workstation and follows all company policies, safety, and procedures.
  • Polishes ground areas with finer abrasive to produce a smooth, unmarred surface.
  • Removal of defects or sharp edges.
  • Replaces worn abrasive disks, wheels, and belts.
  • Selects grade of abrasive belt, wheel, or disk according to specifications, knowledge of abrasives, and condition of metal, and attaches to grinder.
  • Starts grinder and moves it over the surface of work piece to remove scratches, laminated metal, excess weld material, and burs.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates/Licenses

  • Ability to operate a forklift or other powered industrial equipment

Physical Demand

  • Regularly required to stand, walk quickly, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear in a loud and hot environment.
  • Frequently is required to stoop, kneel, or crouch, and climb onto equipment.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat.
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
