Job Profile

The company is seeking a Jacket Welder to join its team.

Educational Qualification

• Applicants require a High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Must be 18 years of age or older

Work Experience

• Possess work-related experience (preferred)
• Must pass the applicable welding tests as required

Duties/Responsibilities

• Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards.
• Performs weld work on top of tank cars, underneath tank cars, and welds from ladders or platforms. Approved preventive fall restraints and safety lines are provided for work on tank cars or ladders.
• Performs welded repairs by utilizing plasma cutting torch, cutting wheels/hand grinders, and wire pulse welding equipment.
• Repairs, straightens, removes, and reworks car parts, jackets, flashing, and repairs existing welds.
• Responsible for keeping welder machines serviced with gas bottles, weld wire spools, nozzles, weld tips, and diffusers.
• Uses hand tools and equipment such as hammers, chip hammers, bottle jacks, and straps to chip and grind weld, slag, or spatter.
• Welders must wear approved FR weld gear/chaps, breathing apparatus, and lace-up steel toe boots.
• Welds or Tack Welds components related to tank cars include steel banding, 11-gauge steel, and steel flashing.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to climb ladders and perform work at elevated heights
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds from the ground surface
• Must be able to pass alcohol and drug testing
• Must be able to pass Company physical exam
• Must be able to pass vision acuity test
• Must be able to stoop for extended periods and routinely move from kneeling to a standing position
• Must be able to wear a respirator
• Must be able to work in confined spaces

Work Conditions

• Moderate to heavy physical effort is involved.
• Lifts and carries necessary equipment to the car to perform an operation.
• Climbs, walks and balances on top of the car while welding.
• Possibility of exposure to x-ray radiation hazards.
• Must follow prescribed safety rules to avoid possible injury.
• Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind off excess weld slag or spatter.
