The company is looking to hire a Journeyman Tool and Die Maker A to join its production team.
Educational Qualification
- Applicants should have a High School Diploma or Equivalent
Work Experience
- Possess 4 years of accredited Tool, Die, and Gauge Maker apprenticeship plus 5 or more years of a diversified tool, die, and gauge-making experience
Duties/Responsibilities
- Construct temporary fixtures and jigs, grind special-purpose tools; improvise measuring devices to check components and project assemblies.
- Grind, sharpen, recondition and repair cutting and forming tools and dies and replace worn or damaged sections when necessary; assist in repair of production machine tools
- Heat treat tool and die sections in accordance with specifications and prescribed procedures.
- In absence of specifications or design detail, proceed from your own conception, select materials, dimensional allowances for fits and tolerances, material treatment methods, etc.
- Organize and determine work procedures and sequences; select material in accordance with specifications and layout project components for machining operations.
- Perform critical bench operations to construct and finish projects involving polishing, fitting, timing, and calibrating mechanisms.
- Perform difficult machining operations requiring complicated and unusual setups necessitating frequent improvisations and adaptations of tooling and machines to perform work beyond the normal range and capacity of available machine tools.
- Plan, layout and perform machining operations and bench work to construct, alter and repair tools, dies, fixtures, jigs, attachments, mechanisms, molds, gauges, etc., of complicated and involved design and purpose to close and exacting tolerances and finish requirements.
- Select speeds, feeds, and operational methods and improvise methods and tooling for special adaptations when required.
- Set up and operate machine tools to perform close and exacting operations on such machines as horizontal and vertical mills, engine and tracer lathes, shapers, planers, grinders, drill presses, power saws to produce turning and forming tools, dies for power presses, jigs, and fixtures for welding and assembly, etc.
- Set up new or modified tools and dies in production machines for train runs and instruct Foreman or Machine Operators on the use, care, and operational methods and procedures.
- Use scales, squares, calipers, micrometers, vernier calipers, indicators, precision blocks, sine bars, parallels, etc., to layout work, make setups, operate machines, and check work.
- Work from complicated drawings, sketches, handbook formulae, and specifications.
- Work from drawings, specifications, templates, samples, and from general verbal descriptions and suggestions to design, create and produce the required tools and dies.
- Assume responsibility for the quality of workmanship, dimensional accuracy, and efficient mechanical operation of assigned projects.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical principles, advanced mathematics, layout and precision measuring procedures, material characteristics, and treatment applications.
- Requires a broad knowledge of tool-making and machining technology.
