Job Profile

The company is seeking a Laser Operator who will set up and operate computer-numerical control (CNC) machine to cut and fabricate metallic parts.

Educational Qualification

• Applicants should have a High School Diploma

Work Experience

• Possess up to 3 years of related experience in job function or training; equivalent combination of education and experience
• Prior CNC Operator experience is helpful

Duties/Responsibilities

• Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed
• Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and references points on material or work pieces as guides for subsequent machining
• Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area
• Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on the machine
• Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify the accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data. Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining problems
• Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required
• Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
• Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications
• Other duties as assigned

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

• Ability to operate a forklift
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mylars
• Ability to use measuring instruments including but not limited to calipers, indicators, and scales.
• Basic Computer Skills – able to learn new screens, reports, functions, and simple software programs with assistance.
• Math Skills – decimals, percentages, fractions – geometry and trigonometry are a plus.
• Read and understand internal procedures and policies.
• Team-oriented with a continuous improvement outlook.
• Understand and follow through on both verbal and written instructions.

Work Environment

• Frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
• Must be able to communicate effectively.
• Must be able to frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds.
• The noise level is usually moderate.
• Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
• Regularly required to work near moving mechanical parts.
• Safety Footwear shall be in accordance with the following: ASTM standard F2413-05 with minimum impact resistance, compression resistance, and metatarsal designation ratings of 75-foot pounds (i.e. ASTM F2413-05 I/75 C/75 Mt/75), which are viewable on the inside tag of footwear.
• Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) are required in all manufacturing areas.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
