Job Profile

The company (Steel America) is searching for a Machinery Operator to join its team for the Fabrication Department.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a High School Diploma or Equivalent

Work Experience

  • Possess 2 to 3 years of experience on one or more of the following burning tables, plate rollers, press brakes, and beam-cutter.
  • Previous experience operating Plate Burning Machines (Plasma or Oxy-Fuel), beam cutters, press brakes, and plate rollers in a steel service center or fabrication environment.
  • Prior experience with CNC/CAD programming, making cut files, and nesting parts.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Ability to read and understand work orders and fill them out correctly.
  • Bend, form, cut parts, and inspect blueprints.
  • Document actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Effectively use all tools associated with performing duties including reading tape measures, calipers, etc.
  • Enter proper program into a computer for machine specifications.
  • Input necessary data for operation and material optimization.
  • Inspect and measure work pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes to ensure the quality of parts.
  • Load/unloads material from the machine.
  • Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain specifications by observing, and cutting, including; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Must be able to select correct burning tips or gasses and pressure to complete the job effectively.
  • Operation of all equipment needed in the workstation such as overhead and wall cranes, hand torches, etc.
  • Operation of CNC/programmable machines in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Operation of non-computerized track burning machine in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Operation of plasma or flame-cutting torches when required.
  • Provide factual and timely information on all aspects and status of assigned jobs.
  • Read work instructions to determine the material to pull for a job and locate the particular material in the warehouse.
  • Select and set up tooling.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain one or more of the following: burning machine, beam cutter, press brake, and plate roller.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as designed.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to tactfully deal with customers, coworkers, and vendors as necessary.
  • Able to work all shifts, overtime, and weekends
  • Must be a steady, reliable worker
  • Must be able to read blueprints or drawings.
  • Requires auditory acuity capable of hearing a forklift backup alarm, moving vehicle horns, or other safety alarms and warning signals.
  • Requires basic levels of mathematical, reading, writing, and communication skills necessary to successfully accomplish the job description, skills, and ability requirements as outlined above.
  • Requires visual acuity necessary and appropriate to perform all job duties and requirements as listed.
