Duties/Responsibilities

  • Calculate where to cut or bore.
  • Determine how fast or slow the workpiece is fed into the machine.
  • Determine how much material to remove.
  • Determine the settings of the machine.
  • Ensure the workpiece is properly lubricated or cooled.
  • Monitor and control feed rate and speed.
  • Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations.
  • Position the workpiece on the drill press, lathe, or milling machine.
  • Select tools and materials for the job.
  • Shape steel, aluminum, titanium, plastic, silicon, and other materials.

Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to the risk of electrical shock.

  • Must regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Required to frequently work from ladders and scaffolds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
