Job Profile

The company is seeking a Maintenance Technician III who will be responsible for maintaining and repairing both electrical and mechanical systems within the assembly facility.

Education Level

  • Equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade supplemented by industrial or vocational course work in electrical, industrial, or mechanical maintenance programs or related field.

Work Experience

  • Persons in this classification will generally have 5 years of experience in positions of progressive responsibility or attainment of recognized journey level status as a technician in all-around electrical and mechanical work.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and disassemble manufactured products by hand.
  • Independently perform the most difficult mechanical or electrical maintenance, repair, installation, and testing functions on all but the most sophisticated equipment.
  • Interpret, explain, and enforce department policies and procedures to reach a full and accurate understanding.
  • Lead, plan, and review the work of personnel in the Maintenance Technician I and II roles that are responsible for performing mechanical or electrical duties in the maintenance, repair, inspection, testing, and installation of mechanical/electrical equipment, including structural.
  • Operate hoist, winch, or hydraulic boom as needed.
  • Operate maintenance vehicles, including aerial lifts, personnel transport vehicles, and forklifts.
  • Operate various tools, instruments, and equipment used in the testing and repairs of mechanical equipment.
  • Operate with advanced skill hand tools, both powered and manual.
  • Overtime is required.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, specifications, and technical drawings.
  • Read and understand work orders, instructions, formulas, or charts.
  • Respond to mechanical and electrical emergencies during non-standard business hours.
  • Responsible for the overall Safety and cleanliness of equipment and area.
  • Set up and operate a variety of machine tools such as a drill press, lathe or welding equipment.
  • Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
  • Troubleshoot basic to intermediate electrical circuits.
  • Understanding and demonstrating the behavior that the safety of yourself and other coworkers is paramount and is the #1 priority here at WestRock.
  • Use an acetylene welding/cutting torch and combination welding procedures.
  • Use electrical or electronic testing devices or equipment.
  • Use tube-bending equipment.
  • Work safely and efficiently under company policies and procedures.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office computer skills to include Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • May require the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • May require the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Qualifications

  • All equipment and supplies commonly used in the mechanical or electrical trade.
  • Applicable codes and ordinances as related to the mechanical trade.
  • Methods and techniques for the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices (including but not limited to NFPA 70E, OSHA, and WestRock).
  • The operation characteristics of a variety of measuring and testing equipment and tools for mechanical maintenance.
  • Operations, services, and activities of all areas of mechanical or electrical maintenance.
