Job Profile

The company is recruiting a Multiwire Operator who will set up and produce a quality and acceptable multiwire cable.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants require a High School Diploma or Equivalent

Work Experience

  • Possess work-related experience
  • The operator should be able to perform satisfactorily in 3 to 6 weeks

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Responsible for set-up and operation of the multiwire drawing machine.
  • Responsible for correct wire sizes, lengths, and directions of lays of multiwire cable.
  • Responsible for loading and unloading sets of bobbins/reels whether they are matched lengths or matched sets.
  • Responsible for making all pay-off bobbin/reel changes and take-up reel changes.
  • Responsible for making hot welds and cold welds
  • Responsible for maintaining a layer wound package
  • Responsible for a correct inventory of WIP tags daily
  • Responsible to observe Southwire safety rules, maintaining good housekeeping, and perform all other duties assigned.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Must be able to read and write
  • Math encountered is in addition, multiplication, fractions, and decimals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must be able to anticipate when payoff bobbins/reels are running low
  • Must be able to read and interpret production orders
  • Must make judgments concerning the quality of individual wires, finished cables, and bobbins/reels
  • Must be able to follow instructions
  • Be in good physical condition

Working Conditions

  • Normal plant conditions
  • Constantly exposed to fairly high levels of noise. Hearing protection is required
  • Standing, bending, or walking continuously
  • Some effort is required to position full bobbins/reels
  • Constantly walking, climbing, bending, and pushing
  • Rolling and set-up of reels requiring a force of 140 pounds are required

  • Follow all company environmental rules/procedures and handle all materials in a manner designed to minimize environmental impact.
  • Follow prescribed safety rules/procedures so as to prevent injury to self and others and to maintain safe equipment and conditions in the entire area of responsibility.
  • Seek the assistance and advice of safety representatives on matters concerning safe practices, policies, or procedures and give personal support to all safety activities and procedures.
  • Use the company’s ISO Quality System documentation to help guide all daily quality activities.
