Job Profile

The company is looking to hire a Pipe Welder who will perform welding procedures using GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) on all submarine piping systems materials, including bi-metallic welds.

This position has the opportunity to support various Operations Directorates across the facility based on business needs such as-

  • D904-Manufacturing Shops
  • D914/D923-Vertical Outfitting
  • D915-Horizontal Outfitting

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • Additional preference is given to Vocational, Technical, and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs

Work Experience

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Consumes an E.B. insert to form the root pass of a butt weld, performs 5X magnification visual inspection of pipe welds, and weld repair of excavated areas of pipe welds
  • Operates automatic TIG fixed head and orbital automatic welding equipment
  • Performs a visual inspection of finished welds.
  • Welds on butts, sockets, boss roots, weldolets, and fillets

Preferred Qualifications

  • EB experience
  • Electric Boat pipe welding experience
  • Military/Navy-related experience
  • Nuclear welding experience
  • Orbital welding
  • Pipe welding training or experience
  • TIG (GTAW, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) welding process training or experience
  • X-Ray pipe welding experience

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces (in-tank welding), and in extreme temperature conditions (cold, heat) as required
  • Candidates must be able to work in horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions
  • Must be able to read and interpret welding and shipyard procedures, structural drawings, technical manuals, test documents, and diagrams
  • Must be available to work all shifts
  • Must pass an Electric Boat socket and X-Ray butt test and SSP 3.11 test per training requirements
  • Must possess basic mathematical skills
  • Must possess their own basic hand tools
  • Previous welding training or experience
  • Some lifting will be required

Physical Demands
