Job Profile
The company is searching for a Pipeline Welder I who will perform certified pipeline welding, maintenance, and repairs on plant and pipeline facilities.
Education Level
- Associate’s Degree in engineering technology, related technical field, or equivalent work experience. (Typically, 3 years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate’s degree.)
Work Experience
- 1 or more years of experience with routine operation and maintenance activities and pipeline and plant welding repairs.
- Must have current NNG welding certification or acquire NNG certification as a condition of hiring or employment, to meet the current engineering standard requirements for 1104 and American Society of Mechanical Engineers welding on Northern Natural Gas pipeline and facilities utilizing shielded metal arc and shielded metal gas processes and equipment.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Assist and support senior pipeline welders in performing piping job setup, layout, and tack-up duties required to complete welding services related to the maintenance and construction of pipeline and plant facilities.
- Ensure proper maintenance of assigned equipment is completed within required timelines and make equipment recommendations as necessary.
- Perform skilled manual duties involved in fabricating and repairing miscellaneous construction, pipeline, and plant facilities projects and equipment.
- Prepare and maintain proper records and reports.
- With assistance, successfully perform API 1104 and ASME code welding activities on pipelines, ASME vessels, associated fittings, and plant equipment per NNG procedures requiring specialized tools and equipment.
- Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
- Ability to safely work in remote locations, often working alone.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without accommodation.
- Must be familiar with precision measuring instruments and be able to read X-rays and blueprints.
- Must be willing to work away from home on occasion for extended periods.
- Must be willing to work overtime.
- Must become knowledgeable of NNG welding procedures, company operating procedures, Department of Transportation and Environmental Protection Agency procedures, engineering standards, Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards, safety practices, and routine administrative duties, as well as state and federal protocol.
- Subject to hazardous conditions including high-pressure gas, welding on loaded lines, adverse weather conditions and temperatures, heights, heavy lifting, and cramped working quarters.
