Job Profile
The company is seeking a Pump Specialist who will be accountable for all aspects of rotating equipment repair and projects from fruition to completion with an emphasis on safety, environmental compliance, quality, work scope definition, productivity, cost, and schedule adherence.
The position’s significant emphasis is the maintenance, inspection, work methods, repair practices, and standards for the repair of pumps and select auxiliary equipment from electric generating stations and similar industries.
Note: The position will be filled at the Plant Specialist Level based on demonstrated skills and experience.
Educational Qualification
- Applicants should have a High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
Work Experience
- Possess 10 years of experience in pump repair
Minimum Requirements
- Knowledge of machining principles and general welding processes
- Knowledge of pump repair specifications (API)
- Proficient in the use and application of basic mathematics
- Proficient in the use of precision measuring equipment including but not limited to micrometers, dial indicators, laser alignment equipment, etc.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems and mechanical drawings
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Strong knowledge of rotating machinery, material properties, mechanics of materials, statics, and dynamics.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Create, edit, and review Quality Work Plans to be utilized by NRG and Contractor personnel while performing maintenance tasks.
- Establish the highest standards of business conduct, discipline, and ethical behavior to ensure continuing compliance with NRG policies and procedures.
- Generate and distribute detailed reports to site management upon completion of equipment repairs.
- Manage projects at multiple work locations and monitor maintenance work to assure the most efficient/effective use of company resources and the timely completion of projects with an emphasis on the quality of tasks performed and equipment reliability.
- Must be capable of making sound, timely decisions with little or no supervision.
- Must cultivate positive business relationships with NRG and vendor personnel, utilizing solid communication skills and performing the duties of an ETS Specialist with the utmost integrity.
- Perform equipment failure troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Perform special assignments within the incumbent’s areas of responsibility, including vendor reviews, proposal reviews, policy reviews, maintenance plan revisions, program enhancements, and problem resolution.
- Promote accident prevention and safety awareness by actively participating in or conducting pre-shift briefings, weekly safety meetings, job safety audits, Lockout/Tagout compliance, and accident investigations.
- Provide technical oversight and quality control to ensure proper tasks are executed while maintenance or repair of rotating equipment is performed.
- Support equipment failure root cause analysis team
- Will be required to occasionally perform vendor shop surveillance to ensure the quality and accuracy of repairs to NRG equipment.
- Write final pump repair and overhaul reports.
- Coordinate contractor activities as required.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Proven skills relating to computer applications such as Microsoft Office, safety, and industrial hygiene, and an understanding of power plant operations are essential.
- The successful candidate will be a technical expert capable of assessing equipment failure and supporting workforce maintenance personnel to complete repairs or improve the meantime between degradation and failure.
Work Conditions
- Combination of Office environment, machine shop, and power plant environment
- May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals.
- Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities.
- Required to be available on a 24/7 emergency basis.
- Requires operation of a motor vehicle, and a valid state Driver’s License.
- Requires operation of a personal computer.
- Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data.
- Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, gloves, ear plugs, etc.)
- Travel required to perform site activities, mainly within the Houston region.
- Work overtime and non-standard working hours as required.
