Job Profile

The company is seeking a Repairman/Welder who will perform tank car repairs.

Perform a variety of tank car repairs according to layouts, work orders, blueprints, schematics, and sketches.

Utilize various equipment and technology including air arc cutting torches and stick or wire welding, grinding tools, I Pads, etc.

Educational Qualification

• Applicants should have a High School Diploma or GED

Work Experience

• Possess welding experience or education (preferred)

Duties/Responsibilities

• Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards.
• Performs welded repairs by utilizing an air arc cutting torch and stick or wire welding equipment.
• Performs welding and mechanical repairs to tank and hopper cars when required.
• Repairs, straightens, removes, and reworks car parts, brakes, underframes, center plates, gears, couplers, valves, etc. using various hand and power tools.
• Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind weld, slag, or spatter.
• Welds components related to tank cars including tanks, bolsters, underframes, side sills, etc.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

• Demonstrate job-related knowledge; for example, follow instructions on a document, be able to read a ruler
• Dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including overtime.
• Must pass the applicable welding test as prescribed by the company

Working Conditions

• Moderate to the heavy physical effort involved
• Lifts and carries necessary equipment to the car to perform an operation
• Climbs, walks, and balances on top of a car while welding
• Must follow prescribed safety rules to avoid possible injury
• Possibility of exposure to x-ray radiation hazards
• Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind off excess weld slag or spatter
